ESL Pro League Season 16Heroic hand Complexity their first defeat in Pro League
Casper "cadiaN" Møller's team claimed its second victory in Malta to keep Group C wide open.
Heroic earned another win at ESL Pro League Season 16 after taking down an in-form Complexity 2-0. The Danes defeated Johnny "JT" Theodosiou's squad in the previous edition of EPL and managed to repeat their performance on Friday to secure a 2-1 record in Group C. Heroic's upcoming matches put them up against HEET and a struggling Astralis.
The North American squad was undefeated up to this point with victories over Astralis and HEET before Heroic put an end to their streak. Complexity are now set to face MOUZ and ENCE, with the race for the three playoffs spots in Group C still wide open.
Complexity opened up the match against Heroic on Inferno. The North American squad took an early 5-3 lead on the back of a successful opening pistol round and a few hits on the A bombsite, which Heroic initially struggled to defend. Once René "TeSeS" Madsen and Rasmus "sjuush" Beck got the ball rolling, the Danes were able to get back in the match and briefly took the lead before Justin "FaNg" Coakley's crucial opening frags and Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli's AWP swung the half 8-7 in favor of the Ts.
cadiaN's men were more comfortable after switching sides and took the second pistol round to kickstart a streak of six consecutive wins that put Heroic firmly in the driver's seat. Complexity's only claimed one round with some upgraded pistols before conceding their map pick 9-16. Everyone on the Danish side was on point, but it was sjuush to top the scoreboard with a 1.32 rating and 85.1 ADR.
The series then moved to Ancient and it was Heroic to take an early 4-1 lead thanks to a second-round force buy. Complexity struggled with retakes of the A bombsite and the Danes took full advantage of that weakness with a few quick hits on the site. hallzerk played a fantastic CT side and registered a 1.26 rating to help his squad salvage an 8-7 half.
Despite a successful start to the second half, Complexity were unable to keep their foot on the gas and their offensive quickly run out of steam. A 9-8 lead in favor of JT's men was swiftly eroded by Heroic's CT side as cadiaN and Martin "stavn" Lund powered the Danish 16-10 victory with 1.95 and 1.47 ratings respectively.
