ESL reveal IEM Katowice and IEM Cologne dates for 2023

The schedules for the two premier events of the ESL Pro Tour have been confirmed for the next year.

ESL have announced the dates for the 2023 editions of IEM Katowice and IEM Cologne, with the two $1,000,000 offline events scheduled to take place between January 31-February 12, and July 25–August 6 respectively.

The dates effectively mean that the Polish LAN will occur two weeks earlier than its 2022 edition, while the event in Germany will run over two weeks later compared to the previous year's iteration.

IEM Cologne will now take place after the summer break

Next year's edition of IEM Cologne will fall in the latter part of the 2023 season for the first time due to the CSPPA's changes to the official summer tournament break which moved the interval a month earlier compared to previous years. The body stated in July that the decision to run the break between June 12-July 9 was made in order to split the year into two more even seasons.

In the announcement, ESL also confirmed that the two tournaments will be hosted by their iconic venues, with IEM Katowice coming back to the Spodek Arena for the eleventh time in its history, while the seventh edition of IEM Cologne will return to the LANXESS Arena.

"It’s always an honor to invite fans back to two of the most recognizable esports events worldwide," commented Shaun Clark, Senior Director Game Ecosystems - CS:GO at ESL FACEIT Group. "We are already bubbling with excitement as we begin the annual planning to host two of the most passionate esports events," it continued.

The schedule for the two events will be:

Poland IEM Katowice 2023

January 31-February 1 - Play-In Stage
February 2–5 - Group Stage
February 10–12 - Playoffs

Germany IEM Cologne 2023

July 25–26 - Play-In Stage

BLAST has the best production, but in terms of prestige it looks like a mediocre tier-1 regular league, where you can lose 3-4 times and still not being eliminated, which is ridiculous.

I think he's taking RMR into consideration aswell, otherwise it would be 4 times only, like you said

The show they put and the way they entertain us is more than enough to be considered a solid top tier 1 event , they will organize the major after Rio

to be honest its a nice change because having cologne and katowice in same season didn't make sense problem still is both of these events are the 1st events of the season when players return after a brake. That sucks.

Cologne ought to be just before a player break. My issue with Katowice is that it occurs so soon after the break that rosters don't have enough time to properly develop so soon after making changes. Having Cologne and Kato right after a break kinda sucks.

if we're having katowice in poland then i guess esl made a deal with the polish government or something since poland banned entry for russian citizens or they had other visas or something i dunno still pog

Yeah. I was just thinking about that. If there are no russian players at the tournament, what is the point of having it then.

it's much harder to get here as a russian than before but it's still possible, idk if it's worth it for a cs event lmao

So it means esl has already made a deal with polish government on visa fo Russian players ?If not kato would be boring since G2 Navi C9 won't attend
