Liquid win North American derby to go 2-0 in EPL

Evil Geniuses' woes continue as they sit bottom of Group D by the end of day two.

Liquid secured their second victory of the ESL Pro League Season 16 group stage with a comfortable 2-0 win over their North American compatriots, Evil Geniuses. Nick "nitr0" Cannella and company dominated all series long, brushing aside their foes 16-7 on Inferno before closing things out with an equally dominant 16-8 showing on Dust2.

Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis continues to be a valuable asset for the Liquid squad, with the Latvian import sitting at the top of the scoreboard with 43 kills and a 1.51 rating. Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte had a strong performance on Dust2 despite the overpowering loss, putting up 22 kills whilst also being the only member of his team with an above average rating (1.05).

YEKINDAR proved too much for Evil Geniuses to handle with a 1.51 rating across the series

The action began on Evil Geniuses' pick of Inferno, with the two teams exchanging streaks of rounds to start the map four rounds apiece. Liquid were able to pull ahead from this stalemate as the opening half progressed, however, adding six out of the next seven rounds to lock in a 10-5 lead by the switch. Josh "oSee" Ohm, YEKINDAR, and Keith "NAF" Markovic were the difference-makers for their team, combining for 44 kills by the end of their defensive effort.

Liquid didn't let off the gas at the onset of the second half, with nitr0's men going on a five-round streak thanks to well-executed site hits to surge ahead and reach match-point, 15-5. Double kills by Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov and Brehze in the 21st round were enough to get Evil Geniuses back on the board, but this did little to deter Liquid from stealing the lone round they needed to take Inferno 16-7 and send the series to their pick of Dust2.

Evil Geniuses jumped out to an early lead once Dust2 rolled around, going 6-2 to start their CT-side on the back of strong site holds and clinical retakes. Liquid slowly began to turn the map on its head, though, wrestling control of the economy as they picked up six rounds against limited Evil Geniuses resistance to post an 8-7 lead by the half's end.

Liquid immediately overturned an Evil Geniuses pistol-round victory to get the second half underway, using this momentum to extend their lead to 13-8. Evil Geniuses continued to look disjointed despite a tactical timeout being called in the 22nd round, with a deadly double AWP setup by Liquid repeatedly paying dividends as they soon locked in Dust2 16-8 to go 2-0 in Malta.

Evil Geniuses' hunt for their first win since ESL Pro League Season 13 continues, with the North American side going up against Eternal Fire on Friday at 16:00 . Liquid, meanwhile, will look to extend their unbeaten run in Malta even further as they face off versus FURIA on Friday at 19:30 . The last time the two teams met was at IEM Cologne, where the American-majority squad narrowly came out ahead after two laborious maps.

can't anymore because of franchising no one wants a washed up player when there's only 5 teams.

EG got a slot right? They seem to have no fucking idea who is good and who is not nor how to build a team!

EG has a slot yes but they are probably looking to poach proven players from teams that did not make the franchising like XSET, OPTIC, FaZe, TSM and the Guard all these teams are way better than EG already.

Like they did with their CSGO roster: Autimatic, Stewie2k, Stanislaw, RUSH, CeRq, Brehze, Tarik...

Wait so franchising is in all of their tourniea or just a few?

All of the ones that matter. There is a tier 2 league but no one is watching that so there isnt any money to be had in it. No orgs are going to want to sit around in that when its a 4 year contract before any teams can be shifted in or out of the league.

Wait wtf so basically their katowice cologne major will only be played by teams who pay money? I mean, S tier only for orgs who pay to play? I heard sentinels is a shit team with famous players and a rich org behind, so they're going to play every S tier tourney but genuine teams can't ? LOL WTF

There are 30 teams split into 3 regions. Thats all you get. Franchised sports are not about merit or how good a team is. Its just about making money and having personalities that sell jerseys. Sure some teams will be the ones that make their name based on results and try and build the bandwagon dynasty, but equally so there will be teams just cruising by being absolutely horrible but still get their cut of the league profits just the same.

I actually had no idea Valorant went franchised lol thanks for that knowledge ^^ that's so hilarious and expected, because RIOT.. of course they would do something like that, we're actually living in a Shadowrun universe

It’s when two teams from the same country/region play against one another. So in this case the 2 American squads play against each other so it’s a derby

That's not a fucking derby, stop making shit up. A derby is between two teams from the same area or town. By the same logic you have, every game played between two teams is a derby because we all live on planet Earth.

It's so weird to me that I can watch Brehze's perspective and still watch him hit absolute bangers with the AK and deagle. Like consistently game to game. But the numbers in the end are just average to maybe slightly above. Maybe it's just a commentary on the team. Cerq on the other hand is a garbage can now.

They talked about it after the match, brehze seems to have found some of his talent back, but it's not enough to compensate for the whole teams and he's not simple.

He'd probably be a good signing for a completely different squad. I think a big part of EG's problem is that their confidence is just completely shot.
