Liquid take down fnatic to secure quarter-final appearance in Malta

William "mezii" Merriman's men have been eliminated in the round of 12.

Liquid earned a spot in the quarter-final of ESL Pro League Season 16 following their 2-1 victory over fnatic in the first round of playoffs. Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski powered the North Americans to the win on Inferno (16-13) while Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis took over the server on Ancient (16-10)

Meanwhile, fnatic leave EPL in 9-12th place for the third consecutive edition of the tournament, having not reached a top-eight position since March 2020 when they won EPL Season 10 Europe online.

YEKINDAR was the star of the show on Ancient with a 1.59 rating

The action between fnatic and Liquid got started on the North Americans' pick of Inferno. The European mix kicked things off on the CT side with a successful pistol round, but their streak did not last long. The attacking team exploited an unstable defensive set-up on the A site to secure a 7-3 lead, courtesy of YEKINDAR and Nick "nitr0" Cannella winning several opening duels. Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson was sublime for fnatic, and his performance was crucial in the mission to salvage a 7-8 half.

mezii's men were more comfortable after switching sides to the offense, and that's when Fredrik "roeJ" Jørgensen came alive. fnatic claimed a 13-12 lead before a complete breakdown in communication on the 26th round allowed EliGE to take down four Ts with the MP9, turning the tide in favor of Liquid. The North American squad edged the map 16-13 after a four-round streak.

fnatic came to their pick Overpass looking to stay in the series, and a 1v3 clutch from KRIMZ on the second round enabled the Europeans to take the early lead. YEKINDAR was again fantastic, with the 22-year-old registering a 1.35 CT side rating to keep Liquid in the match. Two force buy wins gave the North American squad the chance to secure a 7-8 scoreline going into the second half.

Liquid once again failed to build on their pistol round victory, and fnatic did not waste their opportunity. The European mix only dropped one round before evening out the series with a 16-9 win on Overpass. Nico "nicoodoz" Tamjidi's 3k hold on the B site was the highlight of the map and the play that brought back the momentum in favor of fnatic.

The series was decided on Ancient, and it was fnatic to strike first on the CT side after taking the opening pistol round. roeJ was solid throughout the half as he accumulated a 1.48 rating to power his team to an early 6-3 lead. A YEKINDAR 1v2 clutch on the B site put an end to the Europeans' streak and got Liquid back in the game, leading to another 8-7 half in favor of the defense.

The North American squad did not slow down after switching sides and only dropped two rounds in a dominant defensive display which ended the game with a 16-9 scoreline.

The victory means that Liquid will face MOUZ on Thursday at 15:30 to fight for a spot in the semi-finals of the Maltese LAN.

You are reaching hard to try to make me say things I never said. Said oSee is not on TL's level, which he isn't unless they want to be " just another top 10 " team Now it's become " they " because you have no argument, and once again you came to me.. And they won DESPITE of him, certainly not THANKS to his awesome 0.98 performance which is a beyond pathetic rating for an AWPer, especially since he is accustomed to it and it's not " one bad game " thing. Now crawl back under oSee's balls.

You acting like oSee isn’t above 2 other players, and isn’t the best Awper in NA, you’re acting like he didn’t have the most clutch’s during blast, you’re acting like he has a bad average vs top teams, how can he don’t be on TL level when he’s the best awper on that team sense JDM YEARS ago, you just hate on liquid and oSee and won’t admit it because then your “points” towards them become more irrelevant

I don't say he isn't one of the best NA AWP, which is sad, what I say is that I would have liked to see a stronger one, namely degster, who is a very aggro AWP and would have fit well in a team as passive as Liquid. They would have had a good balance between passive/aggresive. I'd like to see them go for dev1ce ( ideally ) or even mantuu/EL1AN/someone like that As for his performance today, good, but let's see him against a t1 team next match and see where he stands at. Who are the two players he is supposedly above btw ? Because he certainly isn't above EliGE or NAF, let alone YEKINDAR, so he is basically the 4th player in TL, only being above nitr0, who's been seriously bad aimwise since he came back from valoLULrant. I'm not sure he is better any better than TL when nitr0/NAF/Stew were when they were taking care of the AWPing duties and TL was actually dominating without a dedicated AWP, because have someone carry a 4750$ gun without decisive impact doesn't seem very profitable. You are right on one point though, there haven't been a very strong NA AWPer in ages ( most of them being either 2d AWPer or t2 like Wardell ). That 's why big NA team had to either go without a dedicated AWP or hire EU AWPs like s1mple or CeRq ( when he was actually good ), poizon, hallzerk etc. Let's see him against FaZe or C9 though, we'll see if he can repicate today's performance when in front of sh1ro or Broky

Look at that fast reply, you truly live on this site that’s kinda sad man, and you’re acting like mouz didn’t get a bye and has been real good lately and this was listed as a 4 star match, and he won’t exclusively be playing vs Broky and shiro, and the 2 people thing was because you pointed out his rating in 1 of the match’s they won and he was higher than 2 of his teammates, and I think you forget about bringing EU to NA hasn’t worked out a lot and don’t forget culture barriers that could become problematic, just keep your negativity away from NA

Fast answer because I was actually on HLTV after watching the match. You sure are better at being passive aggressive than oSee is at AWPing. Also didn't answer your last comment so you basically revived it so I could see it as soon as this game was over.. Now who's living here ? Btw I'm still waiting to hear from you adressing oSee legendary stats these last 3 monthes ..? Even yearly ... 1.06 rating as an AWP ??? Really ...??? xD xD XD ESL actually showed his stats, he was 0.90 of average rating during this whole tournament before this game, NUFF SAID.

You acting like NA wins often and gets high ratings, you acting like oSee don’t have star players around him and maybe he doesn’t get to produce more, like his days on extra salt when he was more of a center piece, and on liquid it’s the riflers not the awp and why shouldn’t oSee get the chance to show himself with a more consistent roster? TL has changed frequently

Good for him. If he gets this consistently then he will have proved he deserves his place. That said let's not kid ourselves, apart from ax1le c9's performance was a letdown. I thought his "choker in big matches " was overblown , but it looks like sh1ro is still struggling bigtime in elimination brackets...

Of course, I was just giving my opinion that he seemed not to be on par of what a team contending for #1 needs. I have nothing personal against the kid, and believe it or not I was at first excited when he joined. Maybe that's why he " disappointed me" this far, because I was expecting Extra Salt kind of performances instantly. I wish him to prove me wrong, because there aren't that many NA snipers nowadays sadly, and we certainly need some ( sad for NA who used to have seriously skilled AWPers back to KSharp, ShaGuar, fRoD etc.) If he does I'll be the 1st to admit it, and to be "happy" because TL was always one of my favorite teams and I find it sad when there is no NA team contending for #1. I guess we will (o)See :)

Even if they're not far away but they still don't reach it then there's no point. They have solid lineup now but so many things to fix first to be an actual solid team instead of some fpl mix.

1 month?? RMR is in a week and if they're still shaky then AND didn't get through then there's no more S-tier tournament to "practice" until they get better and more solid until next player break. Hey I also want fnatic to be a great contender but their improvement is a bit too slow for now.

They changed 3 players, where as to of them had to change the language they are communicating in. Takes time to get consistency, just look at Vitality.
2022-09-27 22:48
So all teams that doesn’t win events are bots by your logic, since reaching playoffs in first big event and being close to beat rank 4 is somehow bad.

T side inferno the rounds all came down to him, either he solo won them in banana, or Liquid would lose. If not for that then even the lucky yolo smoke push from Elige might not have saved Liquid from a 0-2.

But you act like hes 2019 Zywoo in Vitality where he has 30 kills everygame and the reste have 15. It is not the case. Elige is insane, NAF is insane. oSee and nitro are more shaky but overall they usually win as a team and not only because of yekindar
