ALEX confirms fnatic exit, announces break from competition
The British in-game decided to not return to competitive play due to health issues.
fnatic and Alex "ALEX" McMeekin have mutually agreed to part ways, the player announced on Twitter. The 27-year-old has been a free agent since the agreement was made "a while back", but revealed that he will remain on the sidelines as he continues to recover from underlying health issues.
The Brit's departure puts an end to his stint on the inactive roster where he was put in May alongside Valentin "poizon" Vasilev to make space for new signings Nico "nicoodoz" Tamjidi and Fredrik "roeJ" Jørgensen.
ALEX joined fnatic in August 2021 alongside ex-Cloud9 teammate William "mezii" Merriman, kickstarting the team's new era as an international roster. During 27-year-old's time with fnatic, the squad saw constant roster changes with Jack "Jackinho" Ström Mattsson, Iulian "regali" Harjău, Owen "smooya" Butterfield, and poizon all wielding the AWP over the course of his tenure as IGL.
The roster instability only worsened after the announcement that Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin was joining Ninjas in Pyjamas ahead of the RMR tournament for PGL Antwerp 2022. fnatic left the event in 12-14th place once again failing to qualify for the Major and the Brit was benched a month later.
"I decided not to join a team after fnatic due to the deterioration of stomach issues," ALEX stated on Twitter. "I’ve now decided to take a break to concentrate on getting better, instead of living with the issues."
"Since I was unable to perform my duties as a professional player and fnatic couldn’t sell me because of them we mutually agreed to part ways, they were very supportive when I told them what was happening and I thank them for that. For now, I have and will continue to take a break."
fnatic currently have the following lineup:
Jamie "keita" Hall (coach)
