BLAST Fall Final victory propels Heroic to top spot in the world ranking

Heroic, who became a dominant force during the online era, top the HLTV ranking powered by 1xBet for the first time since Counter-Strike’s return to LAN.

Heroic sit atop the world ranking for the first time since LAN play returned in late 2021. The Danes accomplished the feat right after winning the BLAST Premier Fall Final on home soil at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark, where they notched a coveted Big Event title on LAN and can finally leave the maligned ‘onliner’ tag behind. They had fallen short time and time again since the lockdown days, when they topped the ranking in late 2020 with victories from home at ESL One Cologne 2020 Europe, DreamHack Open Fall 2020 and ESL Pro League Season 13.

Heroic made the leap from second place, where they sat behind their Major grand final rivals, Outsiders. Dastan "dastan" Akbayev's men were absent from BLAST — a tournament organizer they are not in a partnership with —, but will still fight for the BLAST Premier World Final title in Abu Dhabi, UAE, as they earned an invite by winning IEM Rio.

Heroic celebrated their first Big Event LAN victory in Copenhagen

The BLAST Premier Fall Final win wasn’t Heroic's first trophy earned on LAN, they claimed silverware at the Pinnacle Cup Championship in June, but the field at the event in Sweden was not stacked with elite opposition. Hard times came after the summer break, during Jakob "jabbi" Nygaard’s adjustment period to the squad, and poor finishes ensued at IEM Cologne and ESL Pro League Season 16, but the Danes showed they were becoming a force to be reckoned with at IEM Rio.

Heroic are now the fourth team in five weeks to occupy the No. 1 spot in the world ranking. FaZe, Vitality and Outsiders topped the list from the last week of September up to now, a testament to how hard it has become to sit at the peak since the summer break when the two dominant forces, FaZe and Natus Vincere, loosened their grasp at the top.

npl flew with NAVI to the BLAST Fall Final, but didn't debut

Outsiders, who looked down at their opposition since winning the IEM Rio Major, now slide down to second place in favor of Heroic. Finn "karrigan" Andersen and his men made the biggest leap with a return to form and a silver medal in Copenhagen after shaky results dropped them to eighth place. The top team in the world during the first half of 2022 struggled in their return from the summer break; they showed a lack of grit in the ESL Pro League quarter-finals and put forth a sad display at the Major, which they concluded with a 0-3 flop in the Legends Stage.

Natus Vincere, one of only two top 5 teams to reach the Major playoffs, hold tight in fourth place amid roster gossip. The Ukrainian-majority squad flew to the BLAST Premier Fall Final with Andrii "npl" Kukharskyi from the academy in tow, although the youngster did not get to debut in the team’s shallow 5-6th place run. Liquid round out the top five, jumping up from ninth place after a semi-final finish in the Danish capital.

The BLAST Premier World Final, set to take place on December 14-18 in Abu Dhabi, will be the last event of 2022 to heavily impact the world ranking and the perfect opportunity for teams in hot form to solidify their position going into the off-season. All of the top five teams in the world, along with Vitality, G2 and OG, will be in attendance for the year's closing event in the Persian Gulf state.

Winning the major doesn't mean the team is the best team in the world continuously. It just is weighted that way in the hltv rankings because the whole major circuit takes a lot of time out of the time the ranking works with.

Heroic played really good and happy for first big LAN trophy for Cadian but I won’t lie I am pissed off as fuck. When I cheer for you in major final which was Heroic’s to lose, you just disappear going full bot mode and give away Outsiders free victory, but here vs Faze, when I cheer for Faze (obviously) you play like gods to edge 3rd map, why didn’t you play like this at major final? If Faze barely lost here to Major Champion s Heroic I would not say a thing, but like this? Yeah I am pissed

Suggest you to check latest major results to find real tier3 team with 0-3 result. Although losing to BNE pretty much means this team doesn't even deserve to be called tier3

Then suggest you to check who lost against that tier 3 team by 0-2 at semifinals at Antwerp, if they couldn't win a map against tier 3 then.. oh then they're tier 4 team, my mistake!

The ranking is updated weekly, and teams move up or down based on their recent performance in competitive matches over the last 2 months. soooo, what do major which happened 6 months ago has to do with faze being shit and losing to BNE rn, and still somehow placing 3rd at ranking?

You know that a spirit fan malding at HLTV ranking makes me unable to stop laughing, like 3rd country people being jealous at upper countries ROFL Try to just support others not malding and blaming others dude, then you don't have to mald like this, ofc Faze reached finals in this blast so they got so many points, before this event they were ranked at 8th. If you wanna complain that you guys could participate in Blast but unfortunately they don't accept shitty teams so :(
2022-11-30 17:01
3 replies
well somehow they accept teams who went 0-3 on major, so I guess they're accepting shitty teams :)) also have no idea why you even brought spirit in the first place, I'm not saying anything about their placement, I'm just saying faze doesn't deserve to be that high based on their latest results. So I guess you're the one who's malding :))
2022-11-30 19:25

Upper ranked team fans don't have to mald LOL Just it was very funny that fan of Spirit try to offend Faze fans, cuz I never have tried to offend others first :) The fact that would never be changed is no one would accept you guys as tier 1 permanently Ok, I'll stop replying you now cuz just feels like kinda waste of time, and please stop invading other countries :)

I get heroic at the top, but… why did Outsiders’ form ranking fall from 200? What did they do to decrease in form, not play? That does not seem right at all
2022-11-28 22:51
9 replies
Points are determined from recent lans and online games during 3 months, maybe they skipped some to focus on Rio. Also, not playing shouldn't keep your points imo, then some teams could play well for 3 months and then literally not play for 3 months and still have a chance to be #1. Also, the #1 team always has 1000 points, and others are weighted from their points, meaning that 200 lost points doesn't really mean all that much.
2022-11-28 23:09
8 replies
Okay yeah that’s fair, some of your form should go down without good results even if it’s because you aren’t playing. Thank you. I’ve never really liked this ranking system because almost every time the #1 team has 1000 points even if in the last three months they had one bad result
2022-11-28 23:11
2 replies
I think it's the only way the ranking could make sense. If no team has 1000 points, does it then mean that the ranking does not recognize a #1 team with their form, despite there clearly is one?
2022-11-28 23:21
1 reply
A team could be at the top without all points across all categories.
2022-11-28 23:28
Top rank is not always 1000. Faze didn't have that from the moment they didn't win Dallas, but it took until Vitality winning EPL for someone else to have more points than them.
2022-11-29 02:39
There’s a huge difference between not playing for 2 weeks and not playing for 3 months. CSGO Major is the main tournament of the season, a team that wins it shouldn’t lose the #1 spot after 2 weeks or at least they shouldn’t lose their points, this is a joke.
2022-11-29 04:25
"Also, the #1 team always has 1000 points" BRUH Not true, u can check it urself just by clicking dates on ranking page
2022-11-29 09:16

I don't get the ranking system at all then The ranking system is implying that itself is better than the top 1 in a given time
2022-11-29 10:32
1 reply
How is the ranking calculated? The world ranking is based on teams' achievements over the past year (with severe decay in points throughout each month), recent form over the last 2 months and performance at the last 10 LAN events. All of that is predicated around a 3-man core each team is required to have in order to retain their past points. Online matches and tournaments are included, but with a diminishing factor which means they cannot make a big difference among the top teams, and mainly serve to put new teams on the map.
2022-11-29 11:09
I feel conflicted ab C9 being that low, especially since they didn't even get to play at Blast Fall, but otherwise I think it's a pretty reasonable take on the current state of the scene
