21:54 France Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut named second-best player of 2022
Russia Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov comes in at third

In one of the most difficult decisions and slimmest margins in HLTV top 20 history, ZywOo just barely edged out the No. 2 spot over sh1ro. The Frenchman's impact in round wins for Vitality was a pivotal factor in the decision, helped by the most convincing MVP performance of the year at ESL Pro League Season 16.

For more about their performance in 2022 and a detailed breakdown on why they were ranked as they were, you can check out their Top 20 player articles below:

The European combine won PGL Major Antwerp as well as secured title wins at IEM Katowice, IEM Cologne, and ESL Pro League Season 16. Despite cooling off toward the end of 2022, Finn "karrigan" Andersen's men were far and away the most dominant team for the majority of the year, earning them the award over runner-ups Natus Vincere, and a late-stage entry from G2.

karrigan's awesome lead = basically having 4 fucking machines headshotting everyone for six monthes... Then as usual with him being unable to reinvent himself and underperforming to the max for the next six monthes... He "deserves" the IGL award just because of the team's achievements but I'm far from being sold on his IGLing. Jame won a major from scratch breeding new almost unknown players into tier 1 players in record time. Now that's some quality IGLing.
2023-01-14 22:23
2 replies
Let's just agree even though we love cadiaN it was FaZe's year anyway Also Jame's IGL skill is controversial - he won the major with help of his team's bracket. If he faced Furia instead of HEROIC there's no way he'd surpassed. The REAL outsiders shown on two remaining BLASTs when they couldn't past the real tier 1 teams, not MOUZ or FNATIC.
2023-01-14 23:56
Well said!
2023-01-15 02:47
Yeah, those were just my predictions, not really how I felt about everything. I personally think Jame is probably the best IGL in the world, but I think karrigan deserved it for results. Jame didn't really have the results, but he had to completely restructure his system, and he still won a major after losing 2 of his best players.

blade as coach of the year is literally a joke :D no offense to him but navi didnt do enough to justify this sycrone did hell of a job to form best academy team ever and stepping into main team while implementing 3 young guys and become top 10, there you can see impact. otherwise robban ofc with the amount of tourney wins.

Facts, even tho I would still go for Xizt as coach of the year
2023-01-14 20:12
1000% agreed NaVi was a complete failure this year considering how strong their LU is . Failed to make élec an IGL, failed to incorporate sdy in their system... Etc + '' mOnesy is not ready for tier 1 '' + Now '' headtr1ck isn't ready for tier 1 '' Then integrating nipl WTF...

i guess asking players may not be the best idea cuz they are biased and go often for names they know rather than deep analyses. blade may deserves it for 2021 or even as a lifetime achievement, but his name is just easy to pick i guess.

Coach of the year is probably the biggest rob I've ever seen

Can't say that b1ad3 deserved this title in 2022, but who else then??? Robban? What he did? A great start of the year is an absolute result of an amazing faze's form, of each of their players, plus the Karrigan's super power as an igl. Robban just watched what was going on, never even knew what to say in difficult moments. B1ad3 has to change igl, has to work with several newcomers during 1 sole year, had to play two new maps instead of 2 well-trained navi's top maps... and he kept good results for almost each tournament (except last ones). Who else from the coaches did what this year?

Probably saw he piled up the dead ence to solid top10-15 team. But its hard to say since we dont know much about how invidual coaches affects to teams

Xizt snubbed. Blad3 is riding off reputation only. Absolutely zero results with 2 top 5 players in the world

Two top 5 players, 1 top 10-15 one ( b1t ), and Perfecto who is the best support/anchor in the world... Lol Complete fraud , just show the jury have zero clue what they are doing and basically confirms 90% of other coaches are basically '' yes men ''
2023-01-14 20:21
Coaches should have been RobbaN, Blade, and Xizt, yes. But while Xizt might have deserved the win even, he was never going to get it.

Honestly it's amazing how quickly hltv forgot about G2 having the most disappointing year you can have as an org (who spent an absurd amount of money) up until the blast world final. I mean they didn't make playoffs at antwerp or cologne, didn't qualify for rio, choked in both pro league seasons and fired their coach and two players...yet still they got 3rd best team (ahead of heroic, outsiders and c9) and 3 players in Top 20 (with 2 who won individual awards). For me this doesn't make sense, yeah monesey deserves rookie of the year and both him and niko should be in Top 20, but still I'm starting to believe G2 bought their way into these rankings.

Biggest robbery ever. It was ace clutch in an important match vs top5 team (at this point) while monesy missed shots and played vs t3 in an irrelevant match. Dunno who decided that BS.

Importance of the match is irrelevant here, it's the fucking highlight not the plot of the show, m0NESY's clutch looked better so it's pretty easy

Robban not robbed. Blade has real responsibility to guide a team through hard times and doesn't sit back behind an igl who can work with any coach Perfecto deserved he is the best at this role. Actually the only support player I remember that you can watch for hype and highlights

I want someone to explain how the ranking works because are absolutely not taking consideration to and important of the situation m0nesy against t2. Theme Aldo hos does Two teams that have not made it far in many tournaments played less matches and losing to lower teams inflating the stats the giving the higher things like wtf g2 top 3 how and ax1ile I can se that that their stats are good but like when you play against t2 and don’t make it far evening though you are at a higher level. Ex faze made deep runs so they meat better teams making matches closer will then lower stats but teams like g2 playing mibr easy match getting got stats and getting clutches that are eyse because they don’t know how to handle situations. Bro this whole things is bought
2023-01-15 23:46
Great show! Keep it up!
