es3tag steps in for FaZe at BLAST

FaZe found a new stand-in within hours of finding out they wouldn't be able to use Kristian "⁠k0nfig⁠" Wienecke.

FaZe have announced that Patrick "⁠es3tag⁠" Hansen will step in for the team at the BLAST Premier Spring Groups. Their campaign in the tournament starts on Friday at 12:00 with a match against Complexity in the opening round of Group B.

The Dane comes in to save FaZe at the final hour after they were told earlier this morning that their original replacement for Håvard "⁠rain⁠" Nygaard, k0nfig, would not be allowed to participate in the event with them due to having been registered as Heroic's substitute.

The decision from BLAST to reject the original emergency replacement came as a surprise to FaZe, who claimed that the tournament organizers had previously told them k0nfig would be able to stand in for them. The turnaround came after the proposed change was reportedly met with resistance from other teams.

es3tag is currently sitting on the bench in Ninjas in Pyjamas, who are also participating in BLAST Premier Spring Groups. During the winter off-season, he was replaced in the lineup by Daniil "⁠headtr1ck⁠" Valitov, who will be making his debut in Copenhagen on Saturday.

BLAST has stated that es3tag will not be allowed to play should FaZe meet Ninjas in Pyjamas later on in the tournament. They play in separate groups but could meet in the gauntlet stage, if neither team wins their group.

FaZe's roster for the BLAST Premier Spring Groups looks as follows:

They have ropz, Twistzz, and broky who drive this team to the top so it should be fine. Imo es3tag just has to play average as he does and there wont be many problems

FaZe made the best choice they could have made. 1 day before the matches you dont want to switch up your tactics too much to accomodate your sub. Es3tag can play anything. Sure he isnt a god tier player, but he is soo versatile he could maybe take Rains roles 100% over. I dont think they could have picked anyone better

So es3tag not being able to play against nip is due to him still being under contract with nip and not because he was listed as a sub. I assume so since faze were able to get him on their lineup. Still a clusterfuck of a situation. Somehow I want to see faze vs nip just to see the chaos.

Apparently from a deleted tweet, Heroic were ok with konfig exploring his options. They wanted to list Nato as their sub but Blast were very unclear about the deadline and when they submitted Nato as their sub on the day of the deadline itself, they were denied as well due to being past the deadline. *shrugs
