B1ad3: "I still wanted to play this event with sdy and npl"

Natus Vincere's coach spoke about NAVI's struggles with the new lineup and Andrii "npl" Kukharskyi's progress.

Andrey "B1ad3" Gorodenskiy talked to James "BanKs" Banks in an interview before the BLAST Premier Spring Group C final between Natus Vincere and G2 and shared his point of view on changes inside the team.

When talking about issues they are facing following the departure of Viktor "sdy" Orudzhev and npl's permanent addition to the main team, the coach said he had originally planned for sdy to stay on longer so that the former academy member can be introduced into the team more gradually.

"I was expecting these [struggles] because, in my plans, I still wanted to play this event with sdy and npl," B1ad3 revealed. "I knew that if we remove sdy we will struggle with the map pool, because for a young player it's hard to play all the maps in such a short time and in new roles. I knew that it's better to still play Katowice and BLAST and then to see what we have."

B1ad3 wanted to retain the six-man project until at least Katowice

After a sub-par performance at the BLAST Premier World Final, npl has shown a better face at the Spring Groups and looked particularly comfortable on Inferno — one of two maps he was brought in for when he first played in Abu Dhabi instead of sdy. Across three Infernos NAVI has played so far in Copenhagen npl recorded a 1.20 rating, compared to his 0.98 event average.

"We must always give a chance to young players and we must not criticize and judge them from one event. It's too early for them," B1ad3 said on the topic of criticism towards npl after his Abu Dhabi showing.

"At the moment, I like the dynamic of npl. If he keeps going like this, after Katowice he will be a different player. The dynamic is really good for such a young player, compared to what it was in Abu Dhabi."

B1ad3 also said the team is still exploring changes in roles. "We just tried to optimize positions on each side and we tried to help each player to get in his position, in his comfort zone, and to try to emphasize the strengths of a player. On CT side, it's pretty simple, b1t is now our main anchor. Other roles we are still experimenting."

yeah they'll get more chances and missing a single blast final isnt a big deal. only tournaments that truly matter imo are Kato Cologne Majors. Blast Finals/EPL are like a tier below.

Get a real igl and move everybody back to their best positions maybe? It's pretty obvious
2023-01-27 18:50
so who is calling the shots on roster moves within navi if its not blade?

Ofc it’s Blade, he is the coach, like he made the call to drop SDY for map 3 in World final and that backfired spectacularly. Nobody else would dictate the roster.
2023-01-26 17:58
It's Blade. Sdy probably didn't want to be a temp player while npl is ready. Why stay in a team that doesn't want you long term and you stand no realistic chance of staying.

Maybe sdy was tired of being a stand-in and had an offer and choose to leave. The same with headtrick, navi would probably bring him to main roster but he wanted to play awp so they put him on transfer list. Hearing from multiple sources that in this regard navi as an org is very player friendly and won't kill a players carrier with a crazy buy-out (like nip or other orgs) if someone is interested in that player and the player himself wants that.

did you miss the point completely? I'm not saying what navi needs or not. Blade completely judged and criticized headtr1ck from one 1.18 event meanwhile he's assuring npl is good and we cannot judge nor criticize him from one 0.67 event

So if u was even tho u wouldn't a number 1 player for 3 years and someone made u play someone u dont like with and waste ur precious time and motivation u would just deal with it and be fine with it? He has every right otherwise he could essily join any team he like if navi didnt agree.
2023-01-30 00:14
"We must always give a chance to young players and we must not criticize and judge them from one event" yea blade that's why we see you spending half the timeouts talking directly behind and to npl while he stares at his screen trying to look normal.
2023-01-26 18:29
When your star rifler goes from absolute legend to average igl 'lamb' (hltv.org/news/35389/how-trading-stats-ca..) for political reasons in a gaming organisation, it's pretty pathetic imo. Good luck with that.

Why kick SDY I really think SDY is the third best Ukrainian player (after s1mple and b1t)
2023-01-26 19:15
This is just B**ch talk. Basically, he's saying: we'll kick sdy after he helps our youngster grown-up. I wonder why sdy did not agree with such offer.
2023-01-26 19:21
Good on SDY to stand up for himself, NaVi treated him like shit and he had to put up with getting blamed for everything.
