FURIA, B4 complete ESL Impact Katowice playoff bracket
FURIA and B4 made it through their respective group stage decider matches on the second day of play.
The two most accomplished women's teams and favorites at ESL Impact Katowice, FURIA fe and Nigma Galaxy, will meet prematurely in the event's semi-finals after the Brazilian squad was defeated by the local squad, NAVI Javelins, on the first day of play. This will be their fourth series after the Europeans got the best of their fiercest rivals in three grand finals in 2022.
B4 fe sit on the other side of the bracket, which means that there's a potential for a Brazilian grand final or for both South American teams to be knocked out in their respective semi-finals. Their rivals, the local favorites NAVI Javelins, will be trying to spoil the party for the Brazilian fans and look capable of doing so. They have already equaled their best finish on LAN, 3-4th place at ESL Impact Valencia in 2022, and will be hoping to do one better in front of their home crowd in Katowice.
The final group stage day started with the remaining elimination match from Group A. pitting HSG fe and Saints. The Asian squad made quick work of their North American counter-parts, brushing them aside 16-2 scorelines on both of the maps in a 2-0 victory. Star player Ramona "gfi" Azween Binti Zaharuddin pulled no punches, ending Overpass with a 2.14 rating, while veteran SinMan "Hazel" Fong topped the board with a 1.91 on Inferno.
FURIA fe's series came second, a rematch against 9 Pandas Fearless, whom they beat in their opening match albeit by the skin of their teeth in overtime. The Russians picked Anubis to kick things off, but went down 14-16 — clutched out by Gabriela "GaBi" Maldonado in the final round —, before Olga "Olga" Rodrigues and company sealed the deal without a hitch on their Nuke pick, 16-8.
HSG fe and B4 fe closed the day out with what was another rematch from the first day of play, and just like in FURIA fe vs. 9 Pandas Fearless, it had been an overtime affair that went the way of the Brazilians. This time around the series kicked off on Ancient, where Lara "goddess" Baceiredo and company won their map pick before going to HSG fe's bold pick in the veto.
The Asian squad chose Vertigo, the map they lost in overtime the previous day, and proved they improved it overnight as they crushed their opponents 16-6. It was not to be for HSG fe in the end, though, as a close start to Overpass gave way to a winning CT side by B4 fe.
The final day of play at ESL Impact Katowice will kick off with NAVI Javelins facing B4 fe at 10:30 , after which the semi-final will take place between Nigma Galaxy and FURIA fe at 14:00 . Finally, the grand final will be played at 18:00 .
