00NATION earn ESL Pro League playoff berth over NIP

The Brazilians upset the odds to qualify for the playoffs despite playing with a stand-in.

00NATION have marched into the ESL Pro League playoffs after reverse sweeping Ninjas in Pyjamas, recovering from a 10-16 loss on Mirage by winning Nuke 16-7 and Ancient 16-12.

Marcelo "coldzera" David gave some insight into how 00NATION got the job done in the final rounds of Ancient in a post-game broadcast interview. "The way how they play Ancient, they play with the AWP on A and k0nfig in window, who always rotates towards B really fast," the Brazilian began. "Our first strat was literally around k0nfig, we didn’t smoke window we just walked mid, smoked doughnut and rushed towards A, because we knew he would rotate toward B.”

He also provided his thoughts on his successful stint leading the team in Epitacio "TACO" de Melo's absence. "The old 00NATION I tried to IGL, but sometimes when you IGL you need the right pieces," he said. "You need pieces who are gonna give you info, they are going to play the game and not wait for my calls. It’s really hard when you IGL and there is nothing happening on the map, and you need to micromanage everything. With them [the team now] it’s different."

coldzera led his team to the playoffs in the absence of TACO

This result was a disaster for Ninjas in Pyjamas as they were heavy favorites coming into the match, and it served as a microcosm of the issues they are currently facing: their offensive halves were atrocious, as they have been all event, they repeatedly made individual errors, and they severely lacked for consistent impact from their stars. This might have been their first tournament with full preparation since adding Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke, but the Ninjas have a lot of work to do if they are to prove that this roster has long-term prospects.

00NATION can be thrilled with their performance as despite attending this event without their IGL TACO, they managed to make it through to the playoffs, the first time they have ever done so at such a prestigious international LAN. The Ninjas might have been there for the taking but 00NATION still needed to get the job done, and they can now look forward to a playoff campaign.

00NATION’s pick of Mirage opened the series and the Brazilians were utterly overrun on their T half. They did manage to pick up the pistol round, but k0nfig stepped up with a 3k on the force-buy and opened the floodgates for his team. Ninjas in Pyjamas easily repelled a largely pedestrian 00NATION offense time and time again, with the Brazilians offering little in the form of opening kills, the score ending at 12-3 in the favor of the Ninjas.

The second pistol went the way of 00NATION thanks to a Eduardo "dumau" Wolkmer 3k, and this allowed the team to build up a strong economy to give themselves a chance of taking the map. Ninjas in Pyjamas also had joined 00NATION in struggling to find clean entries on the T side, which combined with the economic situation saw the score slip to 12-9, but a slick split onto the A site broke 00NATION’s resistance and led to Ninjas in Pyjamas closing out the map 16-10.

Ninjas in Pyjamas’s map choice of Nuke was next on the docket, with the Ninjas starting on the T side. After losing the pistol Ninjas in Pyjamas were comfortably outclassed in the opening rounds of Nuke, struggling to find frags, let alone win rounds. They grew into things round-by-round and eventually did enough damage to the 00NATION economy to break them with a single round win, which took the score to 1-7. This allowed Ninjas in Pyjamas to put together a few more, but once they got to four 00NATION shut them down again, cruising to a comfortable 11-4 scoreline.

A pistol win went the way of 00NATION to spell trouble for Ninjas in Pyjamas, however the Ninjas did win their force-buy to stay alive in the map for a little longer. Once the guns came up for 00NATION they continued to dominate their European opposition, and they strolled to a 16-7 final score.

The final map of Ancient began with 00NATION on the CT side, and the Brazilians started the game in fine form, running out to a convincing 5-1 lead thanks to their star duo of Bruno "latto" Rebelatto and dumau. Ninjas in Pyjamas did manage to find their feet later in the half, with k0nfig finding opening kills being key to their success, but mistakes such as losing an anti-eco to time and buying an extra AWP unnecessarily limited them to a 7-8 deficit going into the second period.

Ninjas in Pyjamas began the final half of the series with a pistol victory, but after they secured a follow-up round 00NATION began to take control, often times seizing mid and having the freedom to probe the entire map. At 12-9 it seemed 00NATION were about to run away with the game only for Ninjas in Pyjamas to win a force-buy, and this led to a scrappy sequence of rounds that were traded back-and-forth. Eventually 00NATION found the weak point in the defense and they exploited it, running three up-tempo A executes in a row to send themselves to the playoffs, finishing the match 16-12.

Unsurprising to see NIP lose. This just goes to show: you can't buy team chemistry. The pieces look good on paper, but it's only that. They just don't make a cohesive team, they are less than the sum of their parts

Right now, yes. There are no more room for excuses. As a captain/IGL it's your job to build team cohesion and NIP has looked like a bad FPL-stack for a while now. Aleksi needs to step up and find a system that works, not to force his defaults all over again.

k0nfig was NiP best player by a mile, and yet 00nation exploited him hard on ancient with his tendecy to over-rotate to B after early mid fight. Not sure if it was his fault or aleksiB system. If headtrick hit his shots the plan wouldn't have worked.
2023-03-13 13:26
Expected, NIP just disband
2023-03-13 00:21
About aleksib : I saw some people blaming him for this defeat but I think there was some rounds the rotation was right but the players just got out aimed. If cold can become a great igl he will be dangerous, because even right now he has more firepower than the majority of igls playing right now.

Stop blaming aleksib. You can be the best igl but if the constellation doesn't fit, it's useless. Rez and brollan who no longer deliver and being outaimed in addition headtrick still too fresh for t1 scene and will never unfold under such circumstances. It's always easy to blame just one person especially igl

konfig experience + headtr1ck talent is great combo. Problem is in egoistic trio with them because they 3 act like FPL stack and everyone of them wants to rule which is not possible. That fuck called Brollan is biggest problem of NiP, believe me. second guy is REZ, who is oldest member there and thinks he must be in charge ; and third one is called Aleksib who is shit IGL but thinks he is famous & skilled because of 1 tournament in 2019.

I hope TACO understands that for the better of the team and his friends, he must go. This n9xzt kid has a bright future, it would be very sad if TACO comes back and replace him. TACO is a legend for what he achieved, it's time to let the new blood take over.

this event proves it. Unfortunately TACO's calling is not good enough to outclash how mechanically bad he is....teams literally abusing the site he is on.
2023-03-13 00:50
n9xt had good T-sides, but was exploited as CT. TACO actually had a great beggning of 2023. The main change 00 did is that n9xt was doing hard T entries and hard extremeties, while TACO was often supporting and playing with the pocket. If they swap TACO back 1-for-1 with the new roles it will be fine. Cold can stay IGL and play with the pocket.

But the entry fragger style is also important. N9xt has the new meta that Niko, Yekindar, and even arT do... Taco is the guy that jumps in the fight and gets traded, he doesn't have the mechanic skills to open sites, that guy on LG/SK was Fer.

NiP's T sides are absolute dog shit. I like rooting for NiP but man is it painful to watch them play on T side. It wasn't great when hampus was in the team but man was it 10x better than right now. Literally every single player in the team can either put great numbers, or disappear completely from the server. And more often than not it's the latter. I'd even go as far as say that they were a strong team when es3tag was still in the team (even though he seemed to be the weakest fragger). At least then they could compete, and win against T1 teams. Now they can't beat T2 teams.

Hampus would create most of the openings for NIP, his impact was always very notable. He’d either try and open rounds or find holes in the defence. It’s not surprising they’re trash without him but losing to 00bots is crazy

k0nfig is more or less taking that role. In ancient, you could give every Nip T-round k0nfig's name tag. He literally took them all. He would always get 1-3 entry kills and if he died => they lost, let's try again in the next one. Rez and Brollan were lost on server, and headtrick didn't hit even half of his awp shots. I can remember 2 hits in ancient. Not even sure what to say about aleksi. He has an idea, but that's about it.

To be honest, I couldn't catch most their pro league matches, but this sounds about right. K0nfig was definitely brought in to entry and I remember him being very good on Ancient for Astralis, like by far his best map. Sounds like the problem is if K0nfig dies without creating an opening they don't really have anything to lean back on. It's hard to win a 4v5 on T-side anyways, but the top teams find ways to convert some of these rounds even if their entry dies without a trade

Can you spot the difference between these two matches? hltv.org/matches/2362213/rooster-vs-00na.. hltv.org/matches/2362043/faze-vs-rooster..

I can tell you: winning 2-0 (16x0 - 16x0) or 2-1 (0x16 - 16x14 - 16x14) counts as a win of the same value... in this format and I can tell you 00nation are qualified, while Australians, OG and NIP are not... the way to do it, doesn't matter
2023-03-13 21:00
this argument of "if" this or that happened, is bullshit "if" Portland Trail Blazers had selected Michal Jordan over Sam Bowie in the '84 draft, their story would be different, but they didn't

in the last tourney hampus played, you could see on his face he was kinda being pushed out of the team, being the ex-igl. i bet they thought konfig would be an upgrade. hampus is out on health reasons, i can imagine what they are, but im just making assumptions. congrats to 00 for doing it, proving they had what it takes. wish it was GH obviously, boys played hard, no coach, redlining the whole thing with the tank on empty but 00 earned it.
2023-03-13 03:24
Ahahah its so funny.. aleksi b tried so hard to show g2 that they made mistake and by picking this kid headtrick he tried to make something like monesy number 2.. he made nip spend money on a kid they have no info about😂 so what happened nip picked the trash left from og and f2 which was absolute of a tragedy with him as an igl then they picked headtrick who makes like 6,7 kills a map and they brought in konfig who is a solo push and die master ahaha i really hope aleksi never plays in t1 teams anymore.. i hope orgs can finally see how useless he is

Absolutely not. He is not showing the needed consistency. From this lineup he has the most to learn. It will take some time, might be a bit longer than with monesy.

he was beyond awful against 00nation

Watch replays and stop blaming aleksi only. Look Nuke headtr1ck throwed that map literally missed many shots that even silvers would've landed.

00 played good. I think NiP need a couple of months of practise. If they dont get better after that we can judge them

I feel like a missed a big announcement that Konfig was signed permanently? I thought he was a stand in? Beginning of the article makes it sound as though 00N had the only stand-in....
2023-03-13 09:49
konfig has played really well since joining, he is consistent. Rez on the otherhand has been quite poor but he played really well against OG. What comes to headtrick you can see from his playing that he doesn't have the needed experience yet. He had almost zero impact on ancient. NiP needs to stick with this lineup for a while and see if Rez and headtrick can find their consistency in all maps. They clearly have some work to do in some maps as a team.

REZ is a paycheck stealer. six years in NIP and still won nothing. his average KD is almost 1 - many games he is shiting pants and playing like a full bot. HE is the one who need departure. about konfig - yes he played well but vs who ? OG - trash now without nexa. other teams tier 3. when konfig playing vs tier 1 - he inconsistent as fuck. thats why all the teams kicked him.

I agree that REZ seem to be overrated. He has somewhat a star player status even though even konfig is playing better than him currently and he has never been able to show much against tier1 teams.

If he doesn't lose focus on his game and still manages to make the necessary frags, which I believe with dedication is not difficult for him, I agree with you

I think the problem lies in the Org and its managment. Extremly difficult to build team chemistry, this takes time to build up and constant change in team line up and never invest in time needed to build that magic chemistry. Hampus is the most explosive swedish player at the moment and cannot wait to see him back again.

anyone else thought that without TACO they had a chance of playoffs?
2023-03-13 15:21
The main issue on cold being an IGL is the mid term damage when the team does not win, if he turns on toxic mode. Cold improved a lot as a person, but I dont know how much. Let's appreciate this wins.

He doesn't want to IGL does he?
2023-03-13 17:39

He does not, mainly when the team is always asking what to do. BUT.. he said the team improved on this matter. On tactics Cold is old school style, doing defaults well done. The secret against NIP was that he fastly understood NIP flaws, as we saw on Ancient T side, when exploring A site due to NIP loose control on some map areas. NIP is a VERY good team, nothing to NIP be ashamed of..
