ENCE secure EPL playoffs spot over Rare Atom

After an upset-filled first day in which Rare Atom dismantled Liquid, ENCE breezed past the Chinese squad in the playoffs decider.

ENCE are through to the ESL Pro League Season 17 Group D upper final following a commanding victory over Rare Atom (Overpass 16-3, Nuke 16-12).

Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer's team have already guaranteed themselves a top-two finish in the group and a place in the playoffs, but are still to face FORZE on Sunday at 16:00 for a quarter-finals berth. Rare Atom drop to the lower bracket of the triple-elimination format to face the winner of Astralis vs. Natus Vincere on Friday at 19:30 .

ENCE secure a top-two finish in Group D

Having dismantled Liquid on the map on Wednesday, Rare Atom opted to pick Overpass. This time, though, they didn't get the chance to showcase the same commanding defense they had against the North American side after their lacking Terrorist side gave them little space to work with.

Starting on the offense, Zhuo "advent" Liang's team got broken early by a Pavle "Maden" Bošković 1v2 clutch in the second round, and from then on ENCE kept capitalizing on early advantages they gained across the map. Limiting their opponents to just three rounds in the first half, the favorites rallied to a quick 16-3 victory on the opener, with their newest addition Guy "NertZ" Iluz finishing atop a rather evenly spread scoreboard.

Nuke turned out a closer battle in which ENCE ultimately prevailed. Snappi's team took some time to warm up to the Terrorist side, but once they got on the board in the sixth round they continued to thrive, abusing Rare Atom's lacking protocols.

The Chinese team kept themselves in the running as they finished the first half on seven rounds, converting a crucial and surprising late retake on the A bombsite as they defused the bomb in a 4v4 situation towards the end.

ENCE's defense proved too strong in the end, though, as only the pistol and following two conversions went their way before the favorites took control of the match with stalwart setups on A.

Great start to this tournament by NertZ. Really want to see how he does against better teams Shame that maden is still so inconsistent

Maden playing bad spots, but still has his moments. It looks like he's an unselfish player who's willing to do what it takes. When I watch ence matches, he's having good impact, even if he finishes negative kd.

I do agree, I don't look at the stats though.. it's about performing in pressure moments and relieving pressure off of your team with getting 1 or 2 picks instead of just getting overrun. It seems to be a bit 50/50 whether it works for him, which is a shame since I know how good he can be.

I feel like it's hard to be consistent in bad spots, but I get your point. I am a little biased, as I thought he was a good player that would never get a chance at t1 after fpx days. When he joined ence for doto, it took a month or two till he looked comfortable, but it was clear that he improved the teams level after that.

Yeah, don't get me wrong.. I definitely think he's a good fit for ENCE and is a big part of their structure. I just often saw him performing to an insane level in some of the same positions in FPX, where it's a lot more rare to see it now. But as soon as he gets a good start on a map, he does extremely well.

Ence picking up Nertz will be one of the moves of the year if he can keep up this level. Good to see lesser known names get a shot in a "big" team rather than recycling the same players time and time again... *looking at Polish teams*

+1 they aren't bad individually but CSGO is a team game and one major weakness for CN teams is a lack of strategy and playing off each other outside of basic utility

Kinda ironic when u think about that all it took for Ence to secure playoff was to beat: -ATK -Rare Atom Best/luckiest bracket ever? :D they’d surely got the spot anyway, but this has to be the easiest way possible
