FaZe pick Ancient
Anubis is left over
15:42 – The head-to-head record
What about the recent record between these two sides?
Well, the three most recent meetings between these two teams ALL went the way of Cloud9. The squads met at IEM Dallas last year, with Cloud9 clinching a narrow 2-1 victory. Then came ESL Pro League Season 16, and this time it was a more convincing 2-1 win for Cloud9. The most recent match was at the IEM Rio Major, which was another hotly-contested Cloud9 win.
As for the maps played? The teams are 1-1 on Inferno and Overpass across those three games, with Cloud9 going 2-0 on Mirage and sneaking a victory in on Ancient. Expect these to be the main maps being contested in the veto, with Cloud9 banning Nuke and FaZe banning Vertigo.
15:30 - The build up to Cloud9 vs FaZe
With the grand final on the horizon, it’s time to take stock of some of the key storylines for both Cloud9 and FaZe.

Cloud9 are on the cusp of proving that the addition of buster was a shrewd one, after many in the community criticized the move. Their Katowice performance left plenty to be desired but here in Malta they have been confidently sweeping aside their opposition, and buster has been a key supportive element.
As for FaZe, they are hoping to put themselves firmly in the category of elite team after a somewhat slow start to the year. We have been waiting for some time for FaZe to really find their best selves after waning in the second half of 2022, but with Twistzz, ropz and broky in superlative form, now may very well be the time.

14:10 - Final day of ESL Pro League begins with CS2 showmatch
After five weeks of Counter-Strike action the grand final of ESL Pro League Season 17 is upon us, and two teams who started the year in underwhelming form have hit their stride to put themselves in contention for the trophy in Malta. FaZe were the best team of last year but have yet to hit the heights of their early-2022 showings, whilst Cloud9 have spent plenty of time searching for the recipe to replicate their online-era domination. Both teams have the chance today to secure a title that will prove they are on the right track and in the ascendency.
Not only is the Pro League trophy on the line, for FaZe there is also the tantalizing prospect of a $1,000,000 Intel Grand Slam victory before them, an opportunity they have already squandered several times. For Cloud9 there is not just the chance to notch another tournament victory towards their own potential Grand Slam, but also the chance to secure a $100,000 prize by playing spoiler to FaZe: any team that denies another their Intel Grand Slam in a grand final earns the six-figure bounty.

Before the main attraction there will be a world first Counter-Strike 2 LAN showmatch, a perfect opportunity to see how the latest iteration of our game is shaping up before play switches over later this year.
The teams for the showmatch will be:
