Academy teams head to the Arctic Circle for Heroes of Lofoten

The Danish squad made the event through the Closed Qualifier, where they narrowly beat 7AM to secure their ticket to the Norwegian tournament. Once in a LAN setting, MASONIC didn't drop a single map on their way to the title, wading through the field of academy teams without trouble to claim their first trophy of 2023.

MASONIC's run in Norway started against MOUZ NXT, but the WePlay Academy League powerhouse wasn't able to withstand the Danish onslaught and suffered a 0-2 defeat.

Next they came up against Astralis Talent, who were fielding Andreas "⁠Xyp9x⁠" Højsleth at the event after the 27-year-old got demoted to the academy squad. While the veteran was able to top the server for his team, that did little to prevent another 2-0 victory for MASONIC.

Their success meant MASONIC came up against PROSPECTS in the grand final, and the Danes were given an advantage before the game even started. The tournament's highest-rated player, Johan "⁠hype⁠" Engblom, was suffering from illness, meaning his team was forced to call upon Young Ninjas's member Linus "⁠LNZ⁠" Holtäng to fill his spot. MASONIC made the most out of the situation by winning Inferno (16-12) before securing the title with a 16-4 rout on Ancient.

Considering Heroes of Lofoten was a tournament full of youngsters, it is worth taking a look at the best performers. The aforementioned hype topped the board with a 1.45 rating before his illness, with the MASONIC duo of Theis "⁠J3nsyy⁠" Jensen (1.34) and Anton "⁠Anlelele⁠" Huynh (1.27) rounding out the top three.

Other standout youngsters include PROSPECTS' Olle "⁠spooke⁠" Grundström (1.22) and ENCE Academy prospect Paavo "⁠podi⁠" Heiskanen, who averaged a 1.24 rating despite his team not winning a single map. 16-year-old Jimi "⁠Jimpphat⁠" Salo also did his best to defy MASONIC in his opening game but came up short, even though he put up a 1.07 rating in the series.
