woxic returns to Eternal Fire

The revolving door at the Turkish squad continues to swing, and once again it is a familiar face walking through.

Eternal Fire have announced the return of ex-AWPer, Özgür "⁠woxic⁠" Eker. The news comes in the wake of the squad benching Yasin "⁠xfl0ud⁠" Koç and Ömer "⁠imoRR⁠" Karataş following their failure to qualify for the BLAST Paris Major.

The most recent moves by Eternal Fire have been prompted by a dramatic downturn in form since their victory at CCT Central Europe Malta Finals. Since then they have gone 5-10 in HLTV-recorded matches, been eliminated from ESL Pro League in 17-20th, failed to qualify for either the BLAST Spring Showdown or the BLAST Paris Major, and flopped to 9-12th in Brazy Party.

woxic is one of Eternal Fire's founding members

First on the chopping block was xfl0ud, who was benched for the third time in his Eternal Fire career and made way for academy member and stand-in Ali "⁠Wicadia⁠" Haydar Yalçın. Next came the departure of AWPer imoRR, now a content creator for the organization, which made room for the incoming woxic.

Eternal Fire bench imoRR

woxic was a founder of the original Eternal Fire roster that came together in the latter half of 2021 and eventually he became the team’s in-game leader, taking the mantle from Ismailcan "⁠XANTARES⁠" Dörtkardeş. With woxic at the helm the squad managed to make it to the PGL Major Antwerp and also achieved their peak ranking of No. 18 in the world.

Things took a turn for the worse towards the back end of 2022, with Eternal Fire crashing out of ESL Pro League in 17-20th and failing to qualify for the IEM Rio Major. In the midst of waning results woxic benched himself from the starting lineup, citing the “unstructured” nature of the project as a problem and stating his desire to continue his career in an international team. He was the second-best rated player on the team, behind XANTARES, during his first stint.

Eternal Fire have become known for their propensity to tinker with the roster, with the team now having undergone 19 changes over the past 12 months. Engin "⁠MAJ3R⁠" Küpeli, xfl0ud, Buğra "⁠Calyx⁠" Arkın and woxic have all left or been benched in that time, only to rejoin the lineup at a later date.
