Astralis beat Cloud9 to make IEM Dallas playoffs; 9z eliminated

Cloud9 drop down to the lower bracket to face off against Complexity on Wednesday at 18:00 .

Astralis defeated Cloud9 in a surprising result in Group B of IEM Dallas and secured themselves a spot in the playoffs, starting on Friday. The Danes will now face off against ENCE in the group final to battle the European combine for a direct passage to the semi-final, while the loser will start in the quarters.

On the B stream, OG 2-0'd 9z in the lower bracket semi, eliminating the South American side in 9-12th place and keeping themselves alive for another day of competition. Their next test will come against MOUZ, with the winner of that match securing a quarter-final spot.

device topped the server against Cloud9 with a stunning 1.57 rating

Astralis were dominant in their match against Cloud9 and limited the Russian squad to single-digit round totals on both maps. The series started on Ancient, where Benjamin "blameF" Bremer gave us a taste of what is to come in the pistol round, starting the game with an ace that included a 1vs3 clutch. That gave his team a hot start, and Astralis kept their momentum throughout the entire offensive half by racking up an incredible 12 rounds at the switch. Such a big lead was impossible to fumble for the Danes, who moved the series to Cloud9's map pick with a 16-8 win on Ancient.

Mirage started slightly better for Cloud9 as they put up six rounds on the less-favored T side and went into the second half with a chance of forcing a decider. Their defensive half left much to be desired, however, as Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov and company mustered just two rounds and once again petered out in an 8-16 loss against the Danes. Nicolai "device" Reedtz (1.57) and blameF (1.56) were expectedly the driving forces of the Danes' victory, while Cloud9 didn't have a single player achieve a 1+ rating in the series.

OG vs. 9z also began on Ancient, with the game on the B stream showcasing a much closer battle. Stand-in Iulian "regali" Harjău was able to carry his team to victory, however, as the Romanian's 40 kills were enough for OG to secure a 19-17 win on the South Americans' map pick and move the series to Mirage.

A standout individual performance decided the second map of the series too, this time by Shahar "flameZ" Shushan. The Israeli rifler put up 31 kills and a 1.78 rating to give his team a 16-12 victory and a spot in the qualification bout against MOUZ.

Buster pickup looking like the most mid roster move ever. They literally play exactly the same as in the end with interz

Agree, nothing ever changed after buster joined.

Even calling it mid is an over exaggeration at this point

Expected tbh , clown9 can only farm cryptoscam tournaments

Still makes me wonder when your type of losers cry about this kinda shit about C9 and other teams that "used to be better". Literally every single team goes through ups and downs. Yes they're on the low side now

Not really. You're just saying childish shit so I assumed you're in your teens. Btw the same C9 won IEM Dallas last year and came in second in this year's pro league in case you're wondering why your moaning was childish

I felt the same, but realized if I got up real early this morning, the entire stream is on YouTube, which is normal for all blast events. So you open that and go to the desired timeframe :) It was nice to see the game, first thing in the morning, without knowing the result ahead of course! Pretty pog match, and soooo nice to see smiles on my homies faces.

I planned on doing that but I get up at 6am and only have 30 minutes to have a shower and everything, didn't fancy getting up earlier for it. Kinda wish I did tho.
2023-05-31 16:33
Astralis showing promise. I actually feel good about this lineup - two incredibly consistent star players and two very solid hungry young players and gla1ve returning to form. I expect good things from them in the 2nd half of the year

i agree. question is what is the set up with buzz? he is generally at the bottom of the scoreboard. if he is playing a support or entry role then i understand. im just kinda confused for the roles in the team, who is entry star rifler etc? blame - lurker / star rifler glaive - entry and igl buzz - entry lurk idk altekz - support and a bit of lurk device - awp

I mostly see Buzz entry.
2023-05-31 11:22
I haven't fully figured that out myself yet. BlameF is taking a lot more opening fights in this new version of Astralis , so maybe him and Buzz are swapping around between passive and agressive lurks?
2023-05-31 12:01
buzz is very map oriented. its no secret that ancient and overpass are the best two maps for astralis. weird to see his stats are so low on those two maps. but when you see him play vertigo or inferno, its a different story and its seems he is more confident on those maps.

Maybe u are right but how you can see, they are consistent top5-8 team in ranking. They struggle, but come on, which team already dont struggle from time to time? Vitality won major, but all knows what was before.

Their trophy cabinet since the online era is pretty empty. If they are fine with being a consistent top 5-8 without lifting a trophy, then sure, keep doing what you're doing...

Gambit boys seem to have lost their grip when they've moved from hardcore farming of all the tournaments and all the qualifiers to just a few select ones. They are playing much much less than before..... While likely getting paid much much more than before.... But yeah, I miss what that squad used to be able to do.
