ESL Challenger Katowice groups revealed

Eight teams will fight it out for the lion's share of the $100,000 prize pool and a spot in ESL Pro League Season 18.

ESL has announced the groups for ESL Challenger Katowice, which is set to play out in the Polish city on June 9-11. The eight-team tournament will be split into two groups of four, playing out in a double-elimination format for the group stage. The event will then transition into a single-elimination bracket for the playoffs.

Snappi's ENCE come into the event as the favorites

ENCE headline the tournament team list and have been put into Group A, with their first match coming against South African minnows Bravado, who made the event through their national qualifier.

The second-highest-ranked team in the tournament Virtus.pro has also been put into Group A, with the Russian organization yet to announce their roster for the Polish event. Their opening match will come against Party Astronauts, a team that features the ex-EG White core.

Group B will give us a South American matchup in the first round of play, as paiN are set to face off against 9z. Rounding out the opening matches is a rematch of the recent CCT 2023 Online Finals 1 grand final between FORZE and ECSTATIC, where Andrey "Jerry" Mekhryakov and company will be looking to repeat the feat on LAN after claiming the title at the online event.

The groups for ESL Challenger Katowice are as follows:

2023-05-31 16:20
how is PA in there hahah
2023-05-31 16:24
My guess is that VP or FORZE wins this tournament. I have a feeling that ENCE is here just to test some stuff.

Why test stuff in last tournament of season and even might be last tournament in CSGO lol

I meant that they might try something for CS2 and ENCE already has spot in EPL. Of course they can't try smokes and stuff, but if they want to be ahead of other teams this is the time to start preparing for CS2
2023-05-31 17:25
Already making excuses smh Yes, ence will choke this tournament. But it's not because they are testing stuff

How could you not invite 9INE, ESL? Polish team playing with Polish crowd again would be amazing to watch... but better invite 2 russian teams that will get booed every time they get on the stage, congrats ESL!!!

Delusional. At the moment of getting invites Nine wasn't any close by esl ranking to Pain Ence, VP and ForZe. But I agree with you that could be cool to see 9 there

It's not about ESL Ranking. Grayhound got local hero invite for Melbourne and in the next ESL Challanger LAN there's suddenly no local hero invite. It doesn't make sense even when it's come to money from selling tickets

No Polish teams in a Polish event lol Even IEM Katowice has a slot for ESL Polish Champion, so I don't understand why didn't they invite a local hero team to an ESL Challenger event. Shame on you ESL PS. I know, flag, but this is just super unfair.

Yes, and if a prestigious event like Kato has invited Polish team, I don't understand why didn't they invite one to a Challenger event which is not that prestigious.

Prestigious events should have home crowd favorites but this is small 8 team lan. I guess 9ine could play qualies and do it easily. Dunno if anyone was invited

OF COURSE you have to put both SA teams in the same group, how could it be different???
2023-05-31 17:26

Because Pain are here not as SA team. They are like just world ranked team. But groups are unbalanced for me. ForZe > ENCE, Pain > VP, Ecstatic > PA, 9z > Bravado
