Elisa Masters to return to Espoo in November

The tournament organizer has once again made the Finnish city their location of choice for a $200,000 event on November 29-December 3.

Elisa has announced Elisa Masters Espoo 2023, a LAN event set to take place on November 29-December 3 with a $200,000 prize pool up for grabs.

The announcement marks Elisa's return to the Finnish city after the tournament organizer previously hosted Elisa Masters Espoo 2022, where fnatic prevailed over BIG in the grand final to earn their first LAN trophy in three years.

The upcoming tournament will differ slightly from its 2022 counterpart in that the team list has been reduced to just eight teams, down from the 12 squads that competed at the event last November.

fnatic were the victors of Elisa Masters Espoo in November 2022

The eight rosters will be seeded into two groups in the inaugural Studio Phase, where a double-elimination bracket will be employed to decide the four playoff-bound teams. The ensuing knockout stage, which will run a single-elimination format, and the group stage's decider games will be played in front of the crowd at the Espoo Metro Arena on December 1-3.

GamerLegion, who raised eyebrows with a runners-up finish at the BLAST.tv Paris Major, are so far the only team confirmed to be attending the event in Espoo, Finland, following their win in the Elisa Invitational Winter 2023 back in March. The remaining seven spots will be filled through the victors of two Elisa-hosted competitions — the ongoing Elisa Invitational Spring and the Finnish Elisa Esports eSM LAN — as well as five invites handed out at the tournament organizer's discretion.

"Elisa Masters succeeded in establishing its position as one of the flagship events in the Counter-Strike competitive calendar," Mika Lepistö, Director of New Business Development and Partnerships at Elisa, said in a press release. "We are excited to be able to expand our partnership with the City of Espoo and continue to strengthen the esports culture. The event offers an exceptional opportunity for Finnish talent to shine on a global level."

I mean... Aleksib yeah, but I'm more talking about actual top dogs. Something along the lines of G2/Heroic/FaZe caliber teams. Probably unrealistic to get many of those type of teams but would be cool to see some of them accept the invitations. ENCE will most likely be there regardless, considering they got a partnership/sponsorship with Elisa.

Yeah fnatic vs BIG final was not the best. Hoping for ENCE, VP, 9INE, Apeks. I think faze is a bit of a stretch

That Astralis - fnatic semi-final was probably the best match in that tournament. Also 2 of the biggest brands of CS historically. Of course both teams were just a shadow of what they once were and with completely different lineups but it was nice to see that matchup anyway. And yeah, ENCE vs Astralis was also good.

astralis "historically" a brand in CS? no, surely not. In CSGO alone? yes surely. fnatic fits for CS in general, but there arent many historically great names/orgs around nowadays. fnatic, mouz & VP fits that. all 3 are historically great brands in CS. you can add coL, mibr and NiP, even tho they had very long breaks from CS. most teams are CSGO only and kinda new like astralis, G2, Heroic, Vitality, FaZe, OG, BIG and so on.

the astralis u refering to was founded in 2016, so has nothing to do with 1.6.

yes except the right to use that name was obtained from the original astralis team

G2 would been there last year but had to cancel cuz of that red bull flick. I think now it all depends where blast will hold fall finals cuz those are couple days before Elisa.

Maybe but it would most likely be not-profitable for the TO since those "small" teams don't generate enough ticket sales or bring twitch viewers as much as big orgs like NiP, Imperial, FaZe, G2 etc.

In all honesty, you probably get stabbed more easily in Espoo than in Vantaa. I've been living here 7-8 years and never had a problem. When I visit Espoo, it's like a jungle...
