Sources: Astralis bench gla1ve, finalize Staehr transfer

Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander's time with Astralis is coming to an end after a nearly seven-year tenure.

HLTV has learned from multiple sources that Astralis is set to make an announcement regarding two changes in the CS:GO roster: the benching of gla1ve and the acquisition of Victor "Staehr" Staehr from Sprout.

Astralis previously reached an agreement to sign Staehr after his contract with the German organization runs out at the beginning of 2024. However, the Danish side has now reached a breakthrough in negotiations over the 18-year-old's transfer fee following months of unsuccessful attempts to get him out early.

gla1ve is the next Astralis veteran on the chopping block

One source has indicated that Astralis will look to put gla1ve on the market. His benching will see leadership pass on to Benjamin "blameF" Bremer, a move that some have called for amidst Astralis' struggles in recent times and gla1ve's poor individual form. blameF has already been calling the shots on one map, Mirage, and has more experience with the role from his time with Complexity.

The changes come as part of a large overhaul of the CS:GO division in Astralis. Earlier on Wednesday the organization announced that it has cut ties with its Director of Sports, Kasper Hvidt, and Head Analyst, Nicolai "HUNDEN" Petersen, citing results that have not lived up to ambitions.

It is currently unclear whether the changes will end there for Astralis. The roster submission deadline for the Danes' first outing in the fall season at the BLAST Premier Fall Groups is set for Thursday. Further changes beyond that point would be subject to a review from the organizers and, if approved, would result in Astralis dropping to the bottom of seeding for the event.

Fr i remember watching him play recently, it was a round on inferno while they were losing t-side, just him and more two Astralis players alive, forced round ONLY PLAYER with pistols was him and still the guy refuse to open pixels for the others 😂 They were preparing to exec B on Banana and I was thinking “man he’s going first but I bet that somehow he’s going to bait his friends to be last one alive” After the smokes and flashes he positioned himself to be the last entering the bomb (remember he was the only with deagle the other two were with AK and Galil). His friends died but he was able to get an EZ kill to statpad before dying too Lmao

Numbers and numbers, how about eyes? Also i disprove all this bs: 1) those stats are both for t side and ct side. Its a well known fact blamef baits on t side. On ct side is where he gets his "opening frags". 2) Where is the difference from buys or ecos? Blamef must be the biggest eco hunter on the scene, he becomes yekindar, ez "opening frags" and multikills. 3) when glaive entries and just dies blamef trades the low guy, thats "opening frags" but he traded, no difference for hltv. On ct side blamef is good. On t side he is a baiter.

That's just a Na'Vi way of thinking, even if you continue removing your 5th man, it's not gonna magicaly work, tbh this change was more than expected. BlameF on Complexity showed better results with a weaker team, than gla1ve with a decent T1 team on paper.

+1 I get removing glaive to some extent but blame IGL is hardly the answer Astralis probably are thinking 'new generation talent' we've been playing with old men for so long while the other Danish teams have taken up all the talent. No more

Yea i dont think astralis is going to win anything with blamef igling, but gla1ves benching was an expected possibility. And i dont think blame returning to igl role is a huge surprise either.
2023-06-22 06:44
3 replies
blame returning to IGLing is not surprising mainly because 'if not him then who else?' Besides, with Astralis giving glaive the shittiest rosters possible, kicking glaive due to poor performances is a story I have heard before with nexa in G2, except Nexa apparently wanted to step down
2023-06-22 06:51
2 replies
I agree with the first part. While i dont think Astralis has had good rosters in a while, i think gla1ve was still underperforming both individually and as an igl. He should have done better and benching him is justified.
2023-06-22 09:57
1 reply
I actually felt that he should have been given a chance with the staehr roster But bubz pointed out a role clash...and that performance wise staehr would either replace glaive or blame. Astralis chose firepower understandably but if blame becomes another electronic it's just another regrettable decision

Yup, his calling on Mirage says all about his igling capacity. He can never be a title contending igl. Staehr should replace Altekz. Altekz should go back to academy team. Blame is great player but bad igl. He should not be leading the team. He will make Astralis worse by his igling.

Yeah but blame not adapting at all shows how bad of an igl he was and there’s a reason none of the top igls lurk. Also, aside from ropz, there’s pretty much no one who lurks as hard as blamef and ropz is much more mechanically skilled than blamef. Blamef has a lower hs% than most awpers, and he typically drops off against better teams where they’re prepared from him and outaim him a lot of the time, though the drop off is also kinda bc astralis just sucks

Not sure if I like blameF igl, or the fact Astralis is keeping both buzz and altekz, but gla1ve for sure was past his due date and I think it's good to move in a new direction, still this lineup has 0 reason to convince me, buzz and altekz are nothing more than cheap academy players that is the only reason they are there, and staehr although seems solid in low tier CS, it's not like he's posting crazy numbers there either

i remember you mentioned this already weeks/months ago in other discussions and i didnt forget. 100% agree, his igl'ing isnt that special. even though AST made plenty changes in the lineup and even BennieF changed up his game for the better of the team, i really need to see how he thinks this team should be lead. Also, with Victor (staehr) in the team, it should be obvious who is their star rifler and stat player. this should be Victor at all times. Will BennieF contribute to this, i honestly dont think so. Nevertheless, im happy to see AST switch up their game, and hopefully regaining some of their old glory (even with a bench that costs 50k per month). Still need to see that one signing tho...

agree which do you think that is? -buzz/altekz +dupreeh/es3tag? personally id want to see three experienced guys in device, blamef and perhaps dupreeh with two best upcoming danish talent as in steahr and altekz. its between buzz and altekz. otherwise I fear the team will lose its backbone to guide the two youngsters specially during playoffs. 3 youngsters sound nice but thats too much on blamef and device shoulders considering their role. igl lurk, awp co igl. need someone to form a entry pag with them like dupreeh. which also restores their offensive-passive balance. hitting two birds with one stone.

it is impressive because that his ONE map he IGL's, if you do that poorly on a map everyone knows and everyone has at 50-50 - then how do you expect things to go when he needs to do 6 maps? It's just a weird promotion, he couldn't be doing any worse than he was doing and he got promoted.

blamef igling will be superb, you just heard here first, he is mastermind genius, moving players like pieces on chess board, he will stay in spawn and coordinate other 4 players with maximum precision and if everyone from his team dies he will win round alone, and that would be his ultimate bait move 😎

I honestly was never so confused about a move ever before On one hand gla1ve had issues, quite a lot and is not in his prime that is for sure However, he's still a great igl in my opinion and I don't know if with blameF igl and staehr additional our firepower actually improves. they will basically play with no traditional igl with device and blamef leading I believe. it makes some sense, in modern cs you call something in spawn then rely on star players to mid round. it's still sad to see gla1ve go.

I think Device, dupreeh etc know how important Glaive was for their success. So I think they are thankful even when it was sometimes hard.
2023-06-22 03:48
Expected. Glaive's fire power is not enough, even if he's calling good (which he is not recently comparing to other teams). Ofc, buzz and altekz are not really tier-1 but if I'm Astralis and I can only change one player for the future of this roster, it would be glaive. There's almost no chance that he would bounce back, and with his legacy and achievements, he has every right to just retire/go coaching. While Altekz and Buzz are still young and they have a chance (slim tho) to develop their skills over their careers.

Why not go english comm and sign the IGL of Apeks? You keep the firepower of blameF, and change your IGL with someone who brings new ideas to the table, and you still have 4 Danish players. Sure, they would have a terrible second half of 2023 with switching to English, but in the long term it's just so much better. BlameF isn't going to perform more than a season as an igl

2023-06-22 01:21
That was unexpected. Even if it was always the discussion, that Astralis needs to remove either blamef or glaive. But I honestly thought it will always be blamef and Astralis will stick with glaive. I think they have potential now, some great players, staer and device. But I am not sure how blamef IGL will work for them. We will see. But wild changes during the player break. Gla1ve may have been rough in his individual form but he is still better than Altekz, way way more better than him actually. Blame maybe a good caller but he is nowhere as good as gla1ve in callings. Altekz shoeuld have been sent back to the academy team and staehr should have been taking his place. Thus, astralis having a trio of firepower (blame, dev1ce and staehr) and buzz as secondary excellent player. Then you have gla1ve calling, this team would have a real tier 1 trophy contender. Most often than not every team has an igl who is constantly underperforming in his stats or fragging, etc individually. It's not for their playing skills that has them in their team but for their brain and stats. Apex, karrigan, etc 90% of the team has that. So, u don't replace a great igl for having 0.90 stats cuz all igl have that. Having replaced gla1ve with staehr, u still have two player buzz and altekz underperforming and dragging the team down but then an added problem if igl comes in and destroying the team. But with gla1ve, no igl problem at least. And I don't know why, bit people seem to be okay with Altekz in the team?? Absolutely no idea why..... And after everything Gla1ve has done for Astralis, ( i maybe getting sentimental), but i think that he deserves to play cs2, giving him one last chance till then by doing staehr replacing altekz and then decide.

Wow, didn't think they had the balls. Glaive is a legend and kind of deserved one more shot with a legit lineup but you can't deny he was awful lately. It really got to the point where you have to throw the "but hes IGL" argument out the window
2023-06-22 06:34
HUH??????
2023-06-22 06:35
Good and obvious change. There is a reason they let magisk igl for however long they admitted.
2023-06-22 06:51
its over
2023-06-22 07:27
Someone just woke up in Astralis, more of this, now they just need to bring in Snappi or Karrigan and they are gucci!
2023-06-22 07:49
Blame igl i guess...

2023-06-22 08:37
Since he became daddy glave he hasn’t done anything

I said that staehr wouldn't join astralis as long as gla1ve was igl, didn't expect them to straight up replace gla1ve with staehr. cool move idc still won't win anything

Pretty unexpected tbh. Was expecting Staehr to replace Buzz, not gla1ve. device the only og left in this team, pretty sad.
2023-06-22 10:30
best choice they could make, it was obvious he was a problem but was kept because of his legacy for so long

I dont think this is the right choice baitF Igl?
2023-06-22 16:48
I think that someone bought gla1ve and Astralis had enough money to buy staehr before 2024. Glaive to mouz/g2, every t1 team can be interested.

Absolutely! If I own a team with poor igling, I'd be running after Lukas right away. G2, Liquid, Vitality (if they had the balls to get rid of that awful igl) or even NaVi
