Official: Movistar Riders sign JUST

The Riders looked to their Iberian neighbors for reinforcements ahead of the fall season.

JUST has gone from Portugal's top side to Spain's

Movistar Riders have announced that Tiago "⁠JUST⁠" Moura has put pen to paper and signed with the Spanish organization.

The 27-year-old will become the first Portuguese player to don the blue jersey since Christopher "⁠MUTiRiS⁠" Fernandes did so during his four month stint with the Spanish team in 2018.

JUST's addition will also mark the first time a foreign player joins Movistar Riders' ranks since the team went back to a full Spanish lineup in 2021. At the time Raúl "⁠DeathZz⁠" Jordán Nieto, Alvaro "⁠SunPayus⁠" Garcia and David "⁠dav1g⁠" Granado Bermudo joined the team following an international period which saw players like Lucas "⁠steel⁠" Lopes and Owen "⁠smooya⁠" Butterfield join the jinetes.

The incoming rifler will take the place of Pere "⁠sausol⁠" Solsona Saumell in the starting five, which is a bold move as the Spaniard was only brought on in October. A much anticipated signing when he came on in 2022, the 23-year-old did not manage to adapt to the squad. He does, however, leave with an ESL Challenger Melbourne to his name.

JUST was a founding member of SAW when the organization was created in January of 2020, but was moved to the bench in April after a shakeup ended up with him out of the starting five and Omar "⁠arki⁠" Chakkor removed as head coach after a poor showing at ESL Pro League and failing to make the Major.

Movistar Riders' first big test with JUST will come in September, when they are slated to play the ESL Pro League Season Season 18 group stage.

its kinda like that tbh, and bear in mind that just has been in various teams with spanish cores or spanish people in teams with portuguese core and being portuguese while having lots of contact with spanish language gets easier to understand over time and vice versa

Well, I'm Portuguese and fluent in both =) The pronounciation is completely different, but most of the vocabulary is either written the same way or very close to one another (of course, there are a plethora of words that are written differently as well, but for the most part and especially for what comming in game is concerned, it's perfectly enough). For example shit=merda=mierda, to say=dizer=dicir and so on. The biggest barrier with spanish people is that their tempo is way faster and they kind of "freestyle" words a lot more, adding to their different accent or pronounciation of words it may end up being a little hard to comprehend but that's not a big deal honestly. I feel like it's easier for Portuguese people to understand some of the South American countries' spanish due to the slower tempo but it's whatever.

An example of a word that is completely different in portuguese and spanish for example is peach=pêssego=melocotón. I reckon there are "fields" with more variation than others. Fruits in general tend to have different names, to say one. Verbs and common slangs, map callouts and essential in-game info won't be an issue. They either sound alike or are just known. Bottom line is yeah he will be able to communicate without being a burden even if he speaks scuffed spanish. Hell, I think it wouldn't even be a big deal even if he spoke portuguese but I can't tell you that for certain.

There's spanish classes in Portugal, but that doesn't matter. Most portuguese people without any classes can do word association with spanish. Most words have the same root or very similar to each other. Like he said, the only problem is how fast they pronounce things. Maybe Catalan is the worst of all languages spoken in Spain for us to understand which have a lot more different wording. We can also do word association with Italian but not on the same level with Spanish

There are but they aren't obligatory. I wouldn't know 100% but I guess for the most part it's due to the 2 languages just simply resembling each other. I'd say internet consumption and just immigration also have an influence. I wanna believe Portuguese speaking people are the some of the most apt for learning other languages in general as well in West Europe because of some traditional portuguese diction traits and the entire north and east side of Portugal border Spain, so there's spanish interaction in there as well. I guess it's just how it is.

I don't shit on Dav1g, I know he's good and he showed in some games delivering good performances but he's always up and down and even if he plays shit positions, having 0.96 this year playing against T5 mostly is not something to be proud of. I know blade is always praising him, but him being no igl and not stepping up to 1.02 at least brings the team down, he's has the worst rating on the team by far and even if Martinez is supposed the superstar on the team, he's not a 1.30rating player (outside faceit were he does 40bombs every day -.-') so the team needs everybody to play as a team like heroic does or like old riders did. Let's see how it works with JUST.

I dont necessarily see dav1g as a problem, and i don't care much about stats in isolation. Martinez is a fragger but he didn't know how to play (so to say) before joining MR, i've seen him improve a lot to the point i think he'll soon be able to fill the star boots, but he's not up there yet. Mopoz and alex are solid imo, and have been for a long time. My theory is that the problem is finding the right approach, they had that with sunpayus and deathzz but those times are long gone. Let us see if JUST can bring some stability, but i think this roster isn't necessarily flawed

Not very different no. Just should not have a lot of problems understanding them, as typical Portuguese do understand basic Spanish (if is spoken slowly tho); and just has played with other Spanish players so I should be good. Speaking tho may be a different thing, I'm not sure how is his Spanish, but being integrated in a team of 4+ Spaniards give him a month and he will be fluent anyway
