Sources: Valve targets Shanghai for second 2024 Major

The second Counter-Strike 2 Major is planned to be organized by Perfect World and PGL in December 2024.

Set to run the first CS2 Major in Copenhagen, PGL will also be involved in Perfect World's Shanghai Major nine months later

Sources have revealed to HLTV.org and Dust2.com.br that plans are in place for Shanghai, China to host the second Major of 2024 in early December.

The tournament will be organized by Perfect World, the publisher of Counter-Strike in China, in partnership with PGL. PGL is also in charge of the first Major of 2024 and the first to be played in CS2.

The RMR qualifiers for the event are planned to take place from October 26-November 13, with the Major itself set to follow just over two weeks later from December 1-15.

The end-of-year date is in line with Valve's recent launch of a request for proposals for the four Majors taking place in 2025-2026. In it, the developers revealed the events have been moved to conclude each season in the middle of June and early December.

Valve open to proposals for CS2 Majors in 2025, 2026; Major dates moved to end of season

Should the PW CS2 Major Shanghai run as planned, it will be the first Major to take place in Asia. HLTV knows that Valve previously planned for Asia to host the second Major of 2023, with China and Singapore among the locations considered, until they scrapped the tournament due to the anticipated launch of Counter-Strike 2.

Honestly it's probably more likely Valve thinks the Canadian players are EU imports. I was on a bus in California a few years ago, got talking to a dude on the bus. I mentioned I was just visiting, and when I told him I was from Nova Scotia, he said "Oh cool, that's over in France right?" (I don't even speak French, so no accent) lmfao. I know all 50 US states but a lot of American's I've spoken to only know like 3/13 Provinces/Territories plus Montreal. (Which many don't seem to realize is a city, not a province).

+1 Unfortunate that it wasn't until very recently that Asia finally got some support happening. Now it just has to somehow expand when CS2 lingers closer and becomes official. Game's currently dead right now there but it'd be nice if CS2 revives the Korean scene and we get to see Koreans giving EU a run for their money like they give everyone else a run for their money in LoL and OW :v (ok that might be a bad comparison cause they just make everyone cry in LoL and OW, and their only match in LoL is China lmao)

I'm not saying they were the best team in the world, because they weren't. But to say they have never been good is just not true, you're probably just to young to have seen it yourself, which is fine. Here is them running a draw on LAN against some of the biggest names in Counter-Strike. youtube.com/watch?v=hHWsaWyTu34 This is just a random video I found in about 25 seconds. They were always more deadly T side, & they were defintely more than capable of taking down the top EU teams at the time. It would be nice to see that again in the scene. NA, SA, EU & Asian regions all having competitive teams would be so much fun to watch again. We had this back in 1.6, just nobody cared because they were too busy eating corn dogs and watching the Superbowl.

Timezones won't be as bad as you think for European timezones. In LoL worlds held in Asia almost had more viewers in EU than tournaments held in EU, because Saturday and Sunday matches would start late morning - early noon so it was easier to watch for people not at work/who'd rather go out at night

+1 I really wanna see some more Asian representation, it gets so boring when every single team is an EU team and now 90% of them are international as well. I wanna see NA teams competing, I wanna see Brazilian teams competing, I wanna see Asian teams competing. And by competing I don’t mean simply being there to get curb stomped by everyone, I wanna see them actually compete and make deep runs.

This is demonstrably false, during the last RMR the single Chinese open qualifier alone had more teams than the two NA open qualifiers combined: liquipedia.net/counterstrike/BLAST/Major.. liquipedia.net/counterstrike/BLAST/Major.. liquipedia.net/counterstrike/BLAST/Major.. And that's not counting the rest of Asia.

Just so you know, the world has started turning away from Chinese manufacturing by investing more in SEA countries (which is where my phone and most of the clothes I'm wearing are made), so that's good progress. Mexico has also surpassed China as the biggest trading partner of the US, which is inevitable as the PRC continues to grow economically and experience rising wages. As for Saudi oil, I have been gladly minimizing damage by taking public transport (unless things are urgent) and plan to solely utilize public transport once I move to a developed country (probably buy a bike too if I'll need one). Also, you misinterpreted my analogy.

Yeah nice one, and your emperor wasn't even executed, even though he is the sacred figure in the center of your militarism. Dodging war crimes ain't a good action, yet you guys are mastering the skill. Apparently we are living in an era that persecutors can deem victims guilty of some crime that they didn't even do. Imagine bringing a major tournament in country which has 0 real legacy in the entire CS:GO history when everyone reasonable suggest to do it in country which by the fact deserves it (for example Australia by its community, Denmark by its legacy(done), Ukraine/Russia also by its legacy(sadly currently unavailable now). Don't know about USA or Canada, because last time they did a real thing was in 2018 winning a major and 2019 winning an IGS, and currently NA cs is dead (Team Liquid are proving my words). Btw if I'm not mistaken there were 0 Chinese players at Paris major xd

If they can sell out stadium it will be huge W. If its like cluj napoca then gg China is biggest market, making CS popular there over shitlorant is an important task. They can bring more viewers than brazil and also a lot of money to the market considering how much they love skins

china isn't a big-shooter nation. They love kid-looking games more. There is a reason why CS is EU-related. But sure you only need 1% of china population to love CS and you have 14 million new fans.

Asia in general isnt very shooter lovely. As you said they like the cartoon style games. Buf if pubg could make it big for a few years in china maybe CS could too. Biggest problem is that CS isnt a popular game to watch on streams unless tournaments, whereas pubg was very enjoyable to watch outside of tournaments. I really hope this china major can be a huge success because it will eventually bring the other asian competitor countries into the game aswell (Kr and Jp)

> they like the cartoon style games this is not true at all, there's a reason games like Tekken, League and SC2/Brood War dominate Asian markets. League I guess is kind of cartoon-y but most games that are big esports in China/Korea are big everywhere
