GamerLegion edge past TheMongolz to stay alive in Cologne

The Mongolian team almost pulled off a comeback on the decider before GamerLegion closed things out in overtime.

GamerLegion have kept their IEM Cologne aspirations alive after surviving a close series versus TheMongolz in the lower bracket. Garidmagnai "⁠bLitz⁠" Byambasuren's side struck the first blow with a dominant performance on their pick of Mirage (8-16) before GamerLegion recovered with a strong win on Inferno (16-8) and narrowly clinched victory on the Overpass decider (19-15).

The Mongolian roster will be kicking themselves after squandering what could have been a series victory versus Heroic on day one, and again today when they had GamerLegion up against the ropes on Overpass at 15-14. However, they have little to be ashamed of as they truly did impress while in Germany, making it through the Play-in with wins over Into the Breach and FURIA before exiting the main group stage in the first round of the lower bracket.

GamerLegion, conversely, can breath a sigh of relief after the series got off to a very rocky start, with Usukhbayar "⁠910⁠" Banzragch repeatedly bullying the European outfit for much of Mirage. Nicolas "⁠Keoz⁠" Dgus and Frederik "⁠acoR⁠" Gyldstrand stepped up to help their side recover on their own Inferno pick, and the Danish AWPer remained a stalwart presence on the server throughout the Overpass decider, scoring a crucial ace late into the map.

GamerLegion have a good chunk of material to review after this game, however, as they nearly squandered a 10-1 lead on the final map and needed to fight for overtime before eventually closing things out. They'll next face fnatic on Monday at 19:30 in the lower bracket in hopes of completing a run through the lower bracket.
