degster targeting return to competition

The Russian AWPer is open to offers as he seeks a new team with which to continue his career.

The Russian AWPer is determined to return to activity

Abdul "degster" Gasanov is on the lookout for a new team to represent, the Russian player has told HLTV. The 22-year-old AWPer has been away from competition since June, when he was benched by OG and put on the transfer list.

"My absence this season was a necessity," he told HLTV, adding that he remains keen to compete at the highest level and interact with fans at major events.

"I want to join a team that is capable of winning, which has always been my goal. I will do everything to achieve that goal with my next team."

degster spent 11 months in OG’s starting lineup following his transfer from Spirit in the summer of 2022. The move came after he stood in for Mateusz "mantuu" Wilczewski at the BLAST Premier Spring Final and helped the team reach the semi-finals in Lisbon.

That wound up being one of the few highlights of an otherwise disappointing tenure with OG as the team struggled for consistency at the highest level. Another was helping OG to qualify for their first-ever Major after multiple failed attempts since entering Counter-Strike esports in 2019.

Despite the team’s struggles, degster remained a consistent performer, averaging a 1.15 rating while playing under OG. That was slightly down from his 1.19 rating with Spirit, with whom he notably reached the semi-finals of PGL Major Antwerp to establish himself as one of the most exciting AWPers in the Counter-Strike scene.

OG bench FASHR

OG are one of the many teams that will be undergoing changes in the near future. Dion "FASHR" Derksen has been placed on the bench, while Nemanja "nexa" Isaković is reportedly one of the players on G2’s shortlist as they look for a replacement for Justin "jks" Savage.

Would it be possible that Degster moves to liquid?, I mean if they dont get cadian. IGL: Yekindar Starrifler: Twistzz Awper: Degster Support: NAF Rifler: Skullz

They can still get Cadian and drop skullz. Cadian said he wouldn't mind rifling and might even prefer it. OR if yekindar cannot get back to his peak level rifling he could be replaced if skullz is doing well.

I don't think it would make sense, Cadian is already an awper. Why replace Skullz with Degster?
2023-11-17 20:49
1 reply
Cadian already expressed interest in being a rifler. I'm not saying they're going to do it, but it is possible. That is all.
2023-11-17 20:56
They cannot drop skullz. According to brazilians they already paid the buyout which was by rumors fucking massive. Throwing skullz away after that is just waste of money. Also they want to be major american, why otherwise pick skullz in first place.
2023-11-17 20:53
11 replies
Again not saying they're going to do it or that it would be wise to do so, just that it would have been an option. There are plenty of people wasting money in the scene, this would be no different. Also Skullz isn't american? I mean yes he lives in the Americas, but I don't think we get two entire continents as one in the CS scene. It is largely just NA and brazil which is in SA. But listen I won't lie we'll take SA too lol. Would make American CS double as good as we then have the SK run and TL's grand slam for our history :P
2023-11-17 20:59

Skullz is definitely american. America includes both NA and SA. Thats what Valve thinks so thats what applies on this site.
2023-11-17 21:01
9 replies
Yeah I don't really think that is how valve, or the average person on this website thinks, but again I'll take it. It makes American CS like 3 or 4 times as good. All good though.
2023-11-17 21:04

Out of curiosity, what would you call a team that has both NA and SA players and therefore is allowed to participate on American RMR?

International? Didn't faze play RMRs with Twistzz? And didn't Liquid play a RMR with Europeans on their roster? I'm not sure what your point is? Because it doesn't look like RMRs care where your roster is really from.
2023-11-17 21:52
5 replies
Faze is only allowed to participate in european rmr. In order to participate in american rmr, which is arguably easier, one must have majority american players in the team. Thats why its relevant that skullz specifically is in this Liquid roster instead of some european player. If Liquid took european player, they would also have to participate in european rmr.
2023-11-17 22:16
4 replies
Thank you for explaining that a bit more to me. I didn't realize it was a simple majority. No doubt NA is easier. What would happen in the situation of 2-2-1 American EU and Asia. Does russia count as EU?
2023-11-17 22:21
3 replies
Russia does count as Europe, yes. Only Europe, America and Asia anymore in Major cycle, though regional qualifiers to rmr still exist. CIS region specifically does not exist anymore in csgo officially as far as I know, though its hard to stop talking about it since its so easy to call every russian speaking region that. The decision to remove cis region might have been part of normal development of regions or it may also have been since the name in itself is slightly controversial on its history which countries should even be part of that. Ukraine war didn't make it easier. In the situation of 2-2-1, in my understanding the team can choose which one to participate. So technically Liquid could take an Asian player (like jks) and be happy with that. Also Israel player should be Asian though I'm not sure. Team can also always choose harder region than its home region. Specifically Asian team can compete in any region, American team can choose to come to Europe to compete, but european team has to compete in europe. I think that is determined by the fact how many major slots every region has. Currently it is 17-5-2 (europe - america- asia, as long as Liquid returns to america) but can change if teams from those regions manage to get out from first swiss round to second swiss round.
2023-11-17 23:01
2 replies
Thank you for throwing down all that info. That is crazy interesting. I just was reading up on this a bit more but the info is all over. Now the ratio of teams to regions you listed there are clearly more teams than that, what is the determining factor of those teams being included vs not included? Partner?
2023-11-17 23:05
1 reply
Major has 24 teams, thats the number I gave. The minimum amount of slots per region is 3xeuropean, 3xamerica, 2xasia = 8 teams. Rest 16 slots for regions are based on the result of previous major. In the top16 of last major (the second swiss round of Paris), there were 14 european teams and 2 american teams. If for example one asian teams get to top16 in major, Asian slots for next major will increase to 3 slots. If two, 4 slots. So some other region also loses slots if that happens. Rewarding good performance in major which is good. Rmr for each region obviously has much more teams. Valve has formula on how its decided. But basic rule more or less is that team amount in rmr per region is double the amount of teams compared to amount of slots available to that region. So european would have 34 teams divided to two rmrs. The actual number is 32 teams to rmr with some weird shit deciding the remaining slots. Also note that while Valve ranking and other rulechanges will change how the teams are able to get to the rmr in near future (2025?), this system for slots for major for regions will stay the same for now at least.

I was just pointing out that I think they have options. And cadian being willing to adapt while IGLing is going to make building a team easier and more managable. I could see them filling their slots with all sorts of people.

Yeah , always thought a Liquid move instead of noSee would have been great for both parties stylewise ( if he could behave himself ) instead of OG. TL missed their chance back then, but now it seems that he has behavioral issues ( thunder struck twice ) so good luck getting picked up by a top team, especially since most of the player that kinda got blackballed in CS when they stiol had the skill to play high level , did so because of toxicity
