Video: How has CS:GO changed your life?

Pro players and talent talked about the profound impact the Valve shooter had on their lives.

When Counter-Strike: Global Offensive came out more than a decade ago, few could expect the competitive ecosystem the game was able to cultivate throughout its existence. What began as a simple first-person shooter grew into a global phenomenon that has given many people successful careers born out of passion.

As the era of CS:GO ended at IEM Sydney, HLTV spoke to several professional players and talent about CS:GO's impact on their lives.

Finn "karrigan" Andersen, Denis "electroNic" Sharipov, Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov, Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad, Nikola "NiKo" Kovač, Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski, Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer, Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski, Freya "Freya" Spiers, Johnny "JT" Theodosiou, Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken, David "frozen" Čerňanský, and Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli all feature in the video and give their thoughts on the game's life-changing influence.

I bought alot of shit skins with 2014 stickers when people were saying "stickers dont add value". + i earned alot of money on trading +like 20k on betting. i didn't invest much cuz i was poor as fuck. I traded alot and earned alot of money on it.

Nice. I only still have my ak redline with kato14 navi holo, hr holo and lgb stickers. I had all kinds of skins that were worthless back then but worth tons now. Glock fade, deagle blaze, awp lightning, bayo fade, m9 doppler etc. Would be sick to have predicted the kato14 stickers and stacked on them.

man you're all about the numbers! :) I spent 3,100 hours on cs go and finally mustered up the balls and discipline to uninstall the game once cs2 came out. Now I have more time for myself and do more wholesome things. But I don't regret playing cs since 2002

I remember somebody told it on some stream 7-8 years ago about maniac that he is Brain.Surgeon.And.He.Has.Degree probably in that field. It wasn't about psychology ofc, I wouldn't be surprised that much if it was so. But yeah you are right, liquidpedia checks out. It happens to me from time to time when I am wrong or even confusing facts from the past, but dude, it is ridiculous if I will factcheck once again everytime before I want to say something :D Just chill, you sound like you are offended.

made me lose my gf, my money, my friends but for all of that I've got so many good memories with screaming russian kids in my matches and interactions with miserable hltv users. Also asking the pro players who make a great living out of it doesn't seem like a good touch of the subject. What else do you expect to hear from them? Most of them wouldn't have a better career than a local store cashier if cs didn't exist. Yet you see them complain so much about everything.

I've quit my job a year ago and this is my only source of income, and yes i made a decent amount so far. Sometimes 5X, 6X better than the previously decent paid job. I am currently buying skins like a madman, and i think this is the best period to buy. Then just hold them for a while, they will only increase in value.
2023-11-18 23:10
CS changed my life for the better. Thank you based CSGO
2023-11-18 16:03
used to watch football as my "panem et circenses" switched to counter strike, cuz football became rather scripted show and became one of social institutes forcing globalist agenda, than actual a competitive game and guess what, counter strike goes the same way. but im glad that cs teams still pick players based on their skill, rather their skin color, eye type or any other type of bullshit that has zero relevance to actual game and i can only dream of CS eliminating its "scripted" component. but i guess it will also eliminate 80% of its income.

believe me or not, i cant stand any type of parasites in life in fact i pushed this my feeling to the limit, so i cant do any money earning activity that has no benefits for surrounding me people/society (i think betting is one of those "useless" activities, isnt it?). u may call me a loser, cuz i lose a lot of "opportunities", but in a long run its a winning strategy, even if i will not live when this moment happen. also, i cant even bear ppl who resell things for profit. and regarding betting companies, who are basically parasites^2, cuz they play on ppls weaknesses, i have one good old solution, but im not gona say it here. and no, not every sport or every cs match is scripted ofc. but from a neutral viewer, who just wants some pure rivalry as my "panem et circenses", i noticed too many weird games/tournaments happened lately in CS. and in football, when i used to watch it back in the day

2023-11-18 18:19
For the worse, I've prioritised CS over life/school. I've lost a lot of years of progress due to "wanting to become a Pro Player" failed dream, posted negative HLTV rating over the maps I played on HLTV, never got past ESEA Advanced and in general just felt like wasted my 10 years of playing this game. I wish I never found CS and stayed focused on school and life, but in the end I cannot change the past. There were many good memories due to it, I lived in China for a while playing CS, managed to travel to a bunch of different countries - but as a whole it did slow my life down.
2023-11-18 18:19
yeah lets ask the pro's who are getting paid 10k+ a month on how the game has impacted their life, sure to get a variety of responses
