Liquid part ways with daps

The Canadian tactician is out of Liquid after 17 months.

daps is the latest on the Liquid chopping block

Liquid have announced the departure Damian "daps" Steele from the organization, confirming an earlier report by Dust2.us. His replacement has not yet been announced, but the team's reigns are expected to be taken over by Wilton "zews" Prado.

Media: zews joins Liquid, agreement reached for skullz

daps' departure comes amid a restructuring process for Liquid, during which they also waved goodbye to Robert "Patsi" Isyanov and moved Aleks "Rainwaker" Petrov to the bench. Josh "oSee" Ohm has also been linked with a move to NRG as the organization looks to return to Counter-Strike in the near future.

Reports suggest that the North American organization is in the process of signing Felipe "skullz" Medeiros, Casper "cadiaN" Møller, and Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken, with only Keith "NAF" Markovic and Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis reportedly set to remain on the roster.

daps joined the team in June of 2022 and oversaw a successful period at the end of his first year after the signing of YEKINDAR bolstered the North American squad.

Results dried up during the end of daps' tenure as the team transitioned to a European lineup led by YEKINDAR, but a lack of success ultimately led Liquid into another rebuild.

As of now, Liquid are:

Canada Keith "NAF" Markovic
United States Josh "oSee" Ohm
Latvia Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis

Bulgaria Aleks "Rainwaker" Petrov (benched)

I’m sure he’s well aware of liquids plans and moves they’re making and something he’s interested in being a part of if he’s considering going back. If he doesn’t decide to stay with faze at this point

He did not leave yet.

Good riddance. His firing was inevitable after that post-Paris disaster with the EU venture Liquid did that was more half-assed than stabbi's attempt to leave Heroic.

I mean, regardless of who said what yekindar probably wanted to play with patsi and rainwaker was probably only because their targets didnt want to play for liquid.
2023-11-20 22:40
oSee was more of a problem. oSee got Liquid eliminated by Apeks. A good AWPer would have gotten them over the hump.
2023-11-20 23:04

Osee was not strong enough, but saying liquid had a chance against apek was pure delusional. Nobody were playing in this game.

I don't think you can call him a good coach with how bad most of Liquid's results were during his time and how he was basically the one behind Liquid's half-assed EU venture like thinking rainwaker was good.
2023-11-20 22:17
8 replies
Overall he's a good coach, he's had good results during his career, and Patsi and Rainwaker I think were Yekindar's idea, but we have no way of knowing anything
2023-11-20 22:19

To be honest Liquid's results with nitr0 and daps weren't that bad. But the shit show that occured once YEKINDAR took over IGLing and having the largest voice in the team clearly ruined things. If you consider daps wholly responsible for that is a different question.

The ship had sunken pretty low before yekindar as igl. His igl venture just didnt change things for the better.

I mean their performances were slowing but they placed 3/4 and 2nd at a number of events. They weren't as horrible as people pretended. That said, it was clear the team needed a new direction by that point, and the results started to collapse the more Yekindar gained control. I'm not blaming him at all, I'm just saying it wasn't always bad showings from day one.

He's a leader, which is a rare thing in NA, but he would definitely be a bit of a liability as a player. If they build the team with that in mind it might work out.
2023-11-21 16:20

The problem is if they bring him in as a player there will be a point where even if everything on the team clicks their ceiling will be capped by having him as a player, and as of now there is no obvious replacement if/when that time comes

Very true, and we could speculate on how that might play out, but I think it remains to be seen if daps even has a role as a player on this team.
