WCG 2011 to take place in Korea?

Reports in China are indicating that the 2011 World Cyber Games event will take stage in South Korea.

Approximately two months ago, HLTV.org reported that Shanghai could very well turn out to be the next host city for the 2011 World Cyber Games event. However, fresh reports now say South Korea will be the next stop.

The reason behind choosing Shanghai was, according to tatazu.com, because Samsung, WCG's main sponsor, were very pleased with how the 2009 event in Chengdu played out and therefore wished to see a similar arrangement unfold for 2011.

The 2011 event to be held elsewhere than China?

Fresh reports over at the Chinese website pcgames.com.cn now claim that the next host city will however not be situated in China, but rather South Korea, a country which has hosted the prestigious event four times throughout its existence.

The website furthermore claims that their source is an insider with the World Cyber Games organization.

Stay tuned to HLTV.org as we will keep you updated on the ongoing situation.

1st being in Asia, better to be in Korea than in China(nothing against china tbh) 2nd nice for asian teams, that wouldnt attend the event, if it was held in europe ... is that enough?

ea ASIA well what about without a bit scary team VMF only it can do damage, and I'm not talking about teams that do not even interested in talking about the fans who already 2-3 VCG's look at 5-6-7 in the morning what we are talking about this crap ...

lol what are u talking about, u just wrote nice to have the first post and didnt have anything constructive to say. Nice that its better for asian teams?? all 2 of them as opposed to top 15 from europe? and i dont think asian teams would care whether its in korea or china(europe has nun to do with this post really), except maybe a south korean team. word.

I wonder how Japan haven't been interested in SC or any conventional PC games. They play their JRPG and date sims. And there is no even 1 person form JP in here(HLTV.org). That is sad for me. Such a great country full of fans of everything but CS or WC3.

To fans like us,better to host in KR than in our country, our live stream suks because of the slow internet speed. But I dont think they will be as successful as they used to be in ChengDu 2009. Cause we have so much fans in China about E-sports.Most popular event, even more popular than real sports in our country.
2010-12-23 04:26
2 replies
Well, i know e-sports is quite popular in China. But more popularity than real sports? Anyway, I'm impressed by how ChengDu managed to held WCG in 2009, the spectator is enormous.
2010-12-23 04:50

agree, our internet provider suks,it's really bad for the rest of fans outside of our country to watch anything from esports(War3,Dota,CS,and SC2). But i believe that for younger age people,Esport is probably #1 most popular thing to do and to watch right now in our country. They are building a Super league for WAR3 now called CEPL.More than 1 million RMB (130,000 dollar)per year will be given each year. They saw this huge market in Esports.I hope one day they put CS in this league. ps:KR is always a good country to hold eports event other than China.

2010-12-23 09:01

2010-12-23 10:09
S.Korea is heaven for gamers <3
2010-12-23 10:11
Europe won't be ideal because of the timezone issue, also America sucks due to visa problems. Asia is the best and ideal location. Although Europe would have been the 2nd choice. Now that no team will have any problems reach S.Korea, we can see the best teams in the world.
