ICSC comment on DTS exit

Following DTS' exit from Intel Challenge Super Cup 8, ICSC referee Pavel Yakubovsky comments on the matter.

DTS earlier today announced they would no longer take part in ICSC 8, following a decision that went against them whilst playing Moscow Five.

ICSC referee Pavel Yakubovsky addresses the decision in the match against Moscow Five:

"In the match between DTS vs M5, DTS wanted to play at their server, where they had average advantage at ping 15. But M5 gives the server where average difference in ping was 4, in favor of M5. 2 players of DTS had 63 ping, and 3 players 44-53. M5 had average ping 51. So it was optimal server for the game. But DTS lied to me before match and show the ping of 2 players 70-90. We agreed to play 1 half on this server, 2nd of theirs.

But when I started the match, pings of the 2 players (with 70-90 ping) dropped to 63, so this server becomes optimal for game and I did not see reason to change it on the other side. Ultimately DTS disagreed to play 2nd half of match on this server and I gave victory for M5. Today DTS remember this game and issued an ultimatum or they play 2nd half of match against M5 on their server, or stop playing at ICSC. I tell them that they can stop playing but they never will play at our leagues again, or will pay a fine.

It is the second event where DTS talk about errors of referees, but they forget that there are rules of which are based on the referees in making its decisions. If the referee of fnatic's cup put to both teams startmoney 5000, then he did it because those are the rules, if I said that we should play on that server, because here the best ping, this is because those are the rules. If they do not like the rules they should abandon the tournament before it starts."

You can check the pings yourself by viewing this screenshot, which was taken two rounds into the match.

We now have both sides of the story, the fact is DTS will not be playing in ICSC 8, whether they will in the future is currently unknown.

oh my god!

Skol can suck my dick, I rather die drinking Absolut than a bottle of Skol. Also, education is better. Ive never seen a fellow swede saying things like "COGU BESTEST AWP OF WORD". You are kidding with me right? You have never heard/studied about Sweden's economy , politics , etc? They are better in almost everything that matters, and you are talking about CS? Also, they can play more CS and have better structure to do it because of the things that Sweden does better than Brazil... So don't be ironic if you don't know what you're talking about. Brazil has good things too, but that "question" is ridiculous.

I did read the article... He says they dropped to 63, that's only 7ms outside their information, so not really that inaccurate from DTS. Either way, this could have easily been avoided from ICSC. Whether or not people think DTS was doing it intentionally.
2011-06-29 21:02

You don't think "70-90" vs. 63 is inaccurate? The whole agreement was based on the ping difference, so when the admin realized they were lying the need for a serverchange disappeared. If they would have changed server, DTS would have had an unfair advantage. M5 probably agreed because DTS gave them wrong information, that would be my best guess at least.

2011-06-29 21:20
it was the optimal for both teams, probably DTS could have 20-30 ping on another server but M5 would have 100 or wtv, so this was the fairest decision they could make. DTS are just babies, all they can do is cry cry and cry more...
2011-06-29 21:20
Well, when you can see xhiroz doing +30 frags in a match with 80 ms, then this game around 50 ping is fine... I've seen so many games like 150 vs 30 ms, with only 4 ms in difference, DTS should be happy.

2011-06-30 00:00
lol @ idiots in this thread thinking that ping is all that matters. obviously none of you know a damn thing about ISPs and servers Listen. Regardless of the ping, the admin made a promise, and no matter what, he should have been a man and stuck with it. Second and most importantly, even if the pings were same, it doesn't mean a damn thing, because DTS' server was probably 2x as good as Game-Hosting's crappy stacked ass servers. Last time I checked, they put like 4-5 servers on one box (server) and they're only boosted to around 333 FPS with no high CPU priority. As someone who's set up servers for other people and someone who's played on just about every CS server provider, I can easily protest that the difference between, say, 50 ping on a stacked 333FPS server w/no high CPU priority and that same ping but on a server on its own box that's boosted 500-1,000FPS with high CPU priority and pingboost 3 is substantial. Then there's also the issue of routing to and from servers with a player's ISP. I'm currently living in California with crap ass Comcast Cable, and despite me getting 60 ping to Texas servers, the reg is always shit, and not even a perfectly boosted server could help it. I'm willing to bet everything that DTS' server was better and could've changed the outcome of the match 100%.

WHat he said
2011-06-30 00:26
Basically all of what you are saying (although it might be true) seems to be irrelevant in this case. As far as I can tell the admin made the choice based on ping (which is by far the easiest way of doing things) and his promise was based on DTS lying. You don't stick to a promise if it is based on a lie, that would be unfair towards M5. If DTS don't like the way the servers are picked, they shouldn't have entered the tournament.
2011-06-30 00:35
8 replies
So you never had higher ping in traffic top which decreased with decreased load of ISP? There is no prove that DTS really lied.
2011-06-30 00:50
2 replies
There is also no proof that DTS told the truth. Admins made correct decision, and did not give in to a team's demands like lower organizations would have. If you have read the rules, it states that the matches are only to be played on two servers IF a ping-balanced server cannot be found. That server was ping-balanced, and there should be no reason why DTS would refuse to play the entire match on that server - unless they felt that there was an advantage using their server (which, according to the referee, was their motive). I see a more reasonable explanation coming from the admin than I do coming from DTS.
2011-06-30 01:01

Its really sad that rules are only ping based and I have to agree with you that admin told more about this than DTS.
2011-06-30 11:40
Did you even read my damn post? The quality of a server >>>>>>>>>>>>> ping. The fact that the admin made his choice purely on ping just shows how much of a retard he is.

Did you read my post? The quality of the server is irrelevant if the rule is based around ping. It really isn't that hard to understand. I assume the admin followed the ruleset, I don't understand how that can be retarded - but I guess you didn't think that one through either.
2011-06-30 02:28
even if the quality of the server sucks, EVERYONE is playing on the SAME server, so it is IRRELEVANT whether it is a "333FPS" or "1000FPS OMGSUPERBOOSTED" server

2011-06-30 12:17
1 reply
It's still irrelevant imo. everyone is playing on the same server, so it should not matter. if they are preparing for an online tournament, and go as far as to leave the tournament because they can't play how they're used to, on a server where they would clearly have an advantage, then their motive to take advantage of the server's performance and location is the only reason that they did this in the first place. if they can play one half, they can play two.
2011-06-30 18:44
yep u are right. Here in Russia a lot of cheap servers, where everyone had low ping, but FPS there is just a joke. Ur spray is just like u have default rate's in cfg. Thats why probably M5 didnt play on UA server.

Again, a very weird statement. Why should he keep his promise when it was based on a lie? Should he give DTS an advantage because they gave him wrong information? Do you honestly think M5 should be punished because the other team was lying? Come on, think it through..

anyway, i agreed that ping of DTS was bad, but cmon first of all this is a PROFESSIONAL team, with stable orga.In this situation they looking for me personally like kids, who scared to loose. They must be tolerate to laggs, loss/choke/ping. If they didnt - they are unprofessional team.

DTS play on LAN usually, they just hate online-tournaments. Thats the main reason, why they wanna some fair with servers. So don't need to flame them, dude... But I know, you're russian and all bad posts from RU always.

it was optimal because the ping of both teams was reletivly even... how hard is that to understand?? whereas in the dts server the ping would of been a +15 advantage to dts

The referee makes a decision and later changes it, so it's completely understanble that DTS is getting frustrated...

If the first decision was based on false information provided by DTS it is understandable that the admin decided to change his mind; especially if the server they were playing on was fine according to his criteria.
