IEM6 GC Guangzhou groups drawn

The groups have been drawn for the sixth Intel Extreme Masters season's first Counter-Strike global challenge, taking place on October 2-5 in Guangzhou, China.

The event handing out $40,000 in prize money, will have the previously announced seven teams as well as XCN Gaming split into two groups of four teams where all of them will play each other in a best of one match.

Playoffs will feature the top two finishers in each group in a best of three single elimination setting. This is going to be the second big event after e-Stars Seoul 2011 to feature the recently added de_forge and de_mirage in the map pool, but due to ESL's rules of picking maps, teams are able to remove both if they wish to, due to the seven map pool.

Group A Group B
Sweden fnatic Germany mousesports
Denmark Anexis Finland WinFakt
Australia Immunity China TyLoo
China eFuture Indonesia XCN Gaming

As usual with ESL's global challenges, the groups are played on different days to kick off the event followed up by semi finals on day three and the third place decider and grand final on the last day of the event. Due to the scheduling, it will be possible to watch almost every single match that is played at the event, as only two rounds during group stage overlap with one another.

It is so far unknown how many matches will only feature ESL TV and how many will also have HLTV.

Sunday, October 2 - Group A

04:00 Round 1 Match #1
05:15 Round 1 Match #2
06:45 Round 2 Match #1
08:00 Round 2 Match #2
09:30 Round 3

Monday, October 3 - Group B

04:00 Round 1 Match #1
05:15 Round 1 Match #2
06:45 Round 2 Match #1
08:00 Round 2 Match #2
09:30 Round 3

Tuesday, October 4 - Semi Finals

05:30 Semi Final #1
08:00 Semi Final #2

Wednesday, October 5 - Finals

04:00 Grand Final
06:50
3rd Place Match

Prize distribution for the event has also been published on ESL's website. Additionally, the top two teams qualify for the World Championship event which has been traditionally held at CeBIT in early March every year.

As there are three Global Challenges this season, that means six teams will secure their place at the World Championship this way. The remaining six spots will be handed over to teams based on various criteria, with one of them going to Na`Vi due to them being the defending champions.

Prize distribution

1. $16,000 + a spot in the World Championship
2. $8,000 + a spot in the World Championship
3. $4,500
4. $3,100
5-6. $2,200
5-6. $2,200
7-8. $2,000
7-8. $2,000

HLTV.org will be covering the event, so be sure to tune in between October 2-5 for full coverage of the IEM6 Global Challenge Guangzhou.

lurrpisss c'mon nigga
2011-09-20 08:12
I think it's going to be hard for winfakt to win against mouz and fnatic unless they manage to pull their game together before the event. their teamplay and communication haven't shined quite yet which was seen yesterday on their CT side against ESC and their game against SK. they were quite easily baited to rotate and their defense really needs improvement. just my slice of pie.
2011-09-20 08:14

+1p They played excellent t side vs SK gaming, they won CT pistol and still lost the game (altough it was vs SK.. but still) they made really stupid mistakes @ ct side, jumping to death, killing teammate in a gun round after eco when they were 5vs4 and that cost them the round..
