EG wins American IEM6 Kiev qualifier

The North American IEM6 Global Challenge Kiev qualifier has finished with Evil Geniuses coming out on top and qualifying for the event to be held next month.

Only four teams ended up signing up with teams such as Back2Back Gaming missing the registration, but fan favorites Check-Six, EG and Ultimax Gaming all participated for a chance to represent the Americas in Kiev.

The qualifier was played out in a simple group stage format where each team played one another in best-of-three series and the winner of the group would win the qualifier. Despite all teams being fairly evenly matched, every series actually ended up in a fairly lopsided 2-0 win.

In the opening round EG took down UMX, while Check-Six beat Xtreme Op which is a team composed of lower level US players. In the next round Danny "fRoD" Montaner's team took down UMX as well, while Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert's Evil Geniuses defeated extreme op. The scene was set for a best-of-three grand final between Gilbert's EG and Montaner's Check Six for a spot in Kiev.

Opening map was de_tuscan where EG had a solid eight round counter-terrorist side, enough to clinch the map with an 8-4 second half. Deciding map was de_dust2 where Gilbert's team jumped up to a 14-1 lead at half before closing the game at 16-10.

Final standings

1. United States Evil Geniuses - a spot in IEM6 Global Challenge Kiev
2. United States Check-Six
3. United States Ultimax Gaming
4. United States Xtreme Op

This means Evil Geniuses is now qualified for the final global challenge of IEM6 featuring CS 1.6, which will offer $40,000 in prizes and be held at Kiev CyberSports Arena on January 19-22 in Kiev, Ukraine.

It has however been rumored that none of the American teams have the required backing to travel to Kiev, in which case this qualifier might turn out to be another event simply for bragging rights, like the IEM6 Global Challenge Guangzhou qualifier.

Should Evil Geniuses drop out, it could mean we would see up to seven European teams participating at the event. Stay tuned to HLTV.org to find out who will end up making the trip to Kiev next month.

Atlast, i see some American news ! :D nice

2011-12-14 12:45
It seems like it's only UMX in the US having support from they're organisation. Let them go instead of EG if they don't have the support!

let swag come to EG that would be nice

sad, eg isnt even positive in their ESEA-I league season.
2011-12-14 15:06
funny i was thinking the same thing, but im sure they will start to try soon an make the lan, unless their contracts are up by then witch would explain why they don't care about their placing
2011-12-14 22:34
i would be really surprised if they dont at least MAKE the lan, but yeah i think they still have skill just no motivation since their contracts expire at the end of the year. not sure if they get till the end of the season or not though
2011-12-14 23:42

waste of money ;)they know they are to weak to win anything and cs is dead in america
2011-12-14 15:55
i wouldnt say dead but they are struggling against local teams at the moment with 5 wins and 5 losses in the esea season. but yeah waste of money is kinda true
2011-12-14 17:30
it is dead
2011-12-14 18:20
and you can see that from serbia? this season has more equal teams than ever
2011-12-14 18:23
I'm in Canada, and the scene is non existent. MW3/ BF3 > CS in NA. USA used to have 3-4 teams to these international competitions... now it's only one who is gonna go there like tourists.
2011-12-14 18:36
thats normal if you play public everyone plays mw3/bf3 these days. does it directly mean cs is dead in na? are you playing on the highest level to call it dead if there are not anymore 3-4 teams on an international event? for sure sponsors are not interested anymore does it mean you have to stop your game just because of money? really? look at the esea community you still see teams there playing everyday. play in a league! theres always competition in cs from open to invite. and for sure pugs and scrims its always the same. cs is dead here and there dead since 2005 without even getting into the scene and we are in 2011. it might getting smaller and? the community is still there.
2011-12-14 18:55
their contracts are up soon
2011-12-14 22:35
tell me something new
2011-12-14 23:16
that would b why they don't practice and are losing more then normal
2011-12-14 23:22
even n0thing plays sometimes worse than normal and i am sure his contract will extend. its just the team.
2011-12-15 01:34
some ppl r saying 3D is making a come back would b coo
2011-12-15 01:40

2011-12-14 16:07
EG wont go to Kiev, tbh they have nothing there to do anyways.
2011-12-14 16:23
and i thought they were just scrimming yesterday LOL :D x6 started bad on dd2 and fucked it totally up on ct no wonder when the team overall has less than 20hours in steam(frod at least) not sure how they beat umx with 16-3 lets see if EG gets a esea slot for the finals xD desire could fuck up their stats with an ffw :D then they have to win every match to hope for a chance
2011-12-14 17:03
Why do they even participate in qualifiers for tournaments they wont go to? I mean there wasnt even any prices(?)
