ESC and SK play CS:GO at CPH Games

Six of eights teams for the Sound Blaster CS:GO Challenge at Copenhagen Games have been determined.

The Copenhagen Games organizers last week announced that they would be featuring a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament for eight teams, the majority of the teams participating have now been found.

The four Counter-Strike: Source teams have been found via the Danish community site and the teams who accepted the invite are:

Denmark Blight Gaming Rytter, p0se, isenb0, herden, Simon;M
Denmark Copenhagen Wolves socN, smF, Nico, xlo, AnK
United Kingdom mousesports mx, RattelsnK, re1ease, Hughsy, pt
Brazil Team TargetDown zakk, zqk, steelega, rafaw, tdrkzikz

Four Counter-Strike 1.6 teams will also be participating and we have found two of them, while the remaining two will be found by the Danish community site The two confirmed teams are:

Poland ESC Gaming Neo, TaZ, kuben, Loord, pasha
Sweden SK Gaming GeT_RiGhT, f0rest, face, RobbaN, trace expect to know the two Danish participants Tuesday. The Sound Blaster CS:GO Challenge will begin at 19:00 on the first day of Copenhagen Games, Wednesday, April 4.

The teams will be playing best-of-one map in a single-elimination bracket. The first round will pair a CS:S and CS 1.6 team. Matchups will be announced as soon as the two Danish CS 1.6 representatives have been determined.

The winner of the Sound Blaster CS:GO Challenge will take the 1,000€ main prize, while second and third placed teams will get hardware from Sound Blaster.

Time is adjusted to your selected timezone
N1. Props for fixing ESC and SK

german eps, the only thing they've played in, but the lineup shows they can actually compete with the top of the css scene, unlike the 1.6 team

The 1.6 team has won more than the css team ever will. Beside that who says that they couldn't compete with the top? The results show they still could give the other top teams a fight, unfortunately there were always a few rounds missing. Since the death of cyx the team never was the same again and I can agree that they also couldn't reach the old glory again but talking about them as they "couldn't compete with the top" is just ridiculous.. maybe it wasn't the right step to contract zonic because of the language barrier but that's just a guess, it doesn't matter now anyway.

they can't compete with the top anymore, they could, now they can't, why can't you distingush the difference. It doesn't matter if your results are all 16-14/13/12 if you're still ultimately losing and not making it out of groups. If they were getting beat in the last 8 or 4 of finals then yeh they're competing but that 1.6 team could never win a tournament attended by any of: SK, ESC, Navi, fnatic, m5 etc.
2012-03-28 17:04

What evidence do you have to support that statement exactly? Apart from the fact that you believe 1.6 players are better? Did you know that any of the pro css teams can beat any 1.6 team if they train for half a year. I can pull made up opinionated statements out of my ass too weeeeee. I don't throw the javelin, but I reckon if I start practicing now I can win gold at the olympics this year. I'm good at throwing stuff so it should be no problem

+1; maybe CS:S is totally different than 1.6 but it surely is not easier. If killing an enemy with m4 in Source is easier, the harder it is to rush and so on. blablabla.

They have two CSS Teams ;). The international one didn't play a single tournament yet and the german EPS team won the last EPS mit Mx and RattleSnake. Your comment isn't true at all. Also the CS team had some good result at IEM China, ESWC and eStars last year. Only 2012 was such a fail and we talking here about two tournaments.

Its nothing like Source. The similarities stop at the graphics of the maps. As to your second point. Source players originally switched from 1.6 to Source, the reason being, was the majority of us were open to change. The other reason being is the fact that Valve seem to be listening to feedback (ie the recent addition of a cleaned up version of dust2 and the fact that a few Valve employees are posting actively on Cadred).

no, the majority of you enjoy simpler gameplay with less recoil, better graphics, and FAR less complex movement capabilities. = CSS & CSGO if you are denying that CSGO isn't more like CSS than you my friend are in denial. Why do you think so many of the source pros are saying its a "playable game" etc afterwards, and the 1.6 pros saying that its absolute crap? Because source people are seeing much more of their game in CSGO. Not to mention, modern cs 1.6 was even close to developed by the time people had switched to source, so you being on these forums discussing a game for which you clearly lack understanding and definitely suck at is really funny to me.
2012-03-27 20:28

Wow, you are actually a moron. If you think it is remotely like Source, then you need to actually play both games. The actual first shot of guns, much more like 1.6 than CSS, the spray patterns are random currently (nothing like Source), the recoil again nothing like Source currently. The movement, perhaps a little, but it is still very clunky (again nothing like Source). "no, the majority of you enjoy simpler gameplay with less recoil, better graphics, and FAR less complex movement capabilities. = CSS & CSGO" And that comment... is comical. We enjoy great gameplay (and if you think it's "simpler" then you haven't touched Source AT ALL).

you like source, therefore you like simpler gameplay. How is it not simpler by the way, with no depth in movement and bigger hitboxes, less recoil, virtually no spamming, the list goes on. 1.6 is clearly the more dynamic game, never allowing CSS to overtake it in general popularity or in competitive play (lets be real, its never even been close..) Why did cs 1.6 pros move on to source and completely dominate within a few weeks... and then they came back and found that they 8+ year old game they left had still evolved a HUGE amount, and had an enormous amount of catching up to do. in every way CS:GO is more like source, you are saying its middle ground, when actually, its further past source in some respects, but that doesn't make it middle ground, that means its on the other end of the spectrum completely from cs 1.6, past even CSS.

clueless describes you.... "you like source, therefore you like simpler gameplay. How is it not simpler by the way, with no depth in movement and bigger hitboxes, less recoil, virtually no spamming, the list goes on. 1.6 is clearly the more dynamic game, never allowing CSS to overtake it in general popularity or in competitive play (lets be real, its never even been close..)" So just because I like Source, means I like simpler gameplay. The fact that the hitboxes in 1.6 and Source are exactly the same (because they are, it's the model sizes that are different and the issue that the Source engine has laggy hitboxes). Virtually no spamming? There is a lot more spamming in Source than you think. "Why did cs 1.6 pros move on to source and completely dominate within a few weeks... and then they came back and found that they 8+ year old game they left had still evolved a HUGE amount, and had an enormous amount of catching up to do. " A few weeks, it took Salvo at the time at least 6 months of hardcore training to switch over. The 1.6 teams who switched were fucking horrible when they joined in the Source scene, some of the NA teams were fucking dire when they switched, and most of them HAD to put in time and effort to actually learn Source. Please clue up if you are gonna criticise. "in every way CS:GO is more like source, you are saying its middle ground, when actually, its further past source in some respects, but that doesn't make it middle ground, that means its on the other end of the spectrum completely from cs 1.6, past even CSS." That doesn't even make sense, if you are going to fight fire with fire please actually come out with some coherent points to make your case. CS:GO is nothing like Source aside from the map graphics. That is it, the recoil is different, the hitboxes are MUCH smaller than both 1.6 & Source, and the fact that the majority of it currently is swinging in the middle (proven by spray patterns between the best of both worlds). Of course you will come back at me with some stupid dribble. You obviously have not played Source and CS:GO, and if you have what you have completely done is played Source Pub, and then played CS:GO and seen "achievements" and thought "yeh this is Source". I understand that 1.6 is the better game in terms of some of the gameplay, however the majority of what some 1.6 players class as "gameplay" are in fact original bugs of the game, which were never fixed. I also understand that 1.6 has a bigger community, the reason being, you've had a great number of massive tournaments that have supported the game for many years. Unfortunately for both CS1.6 & Source, we both need to realise that the FPS Genre seems to be shunned, and both of our communities need to wake up and realise that there will not be any major tournaments that support either CS because we are overlooked by greater numbers in SC2, HoN, LoL currently. If either community wants to survive, we have to support CS:GO and develop the game that both of us want Valve to do, so that the two communities become one community and it being a MASSIVE community overlooking that of SC2, HoN, & LoL.

"that was full of source "pros"" Wait what? Almost all of the NA 1.6 scene switched from 1.6 to Source for CGS. "They crushed everyone", once again, they didn't some of their first tournaments when they originally switched, they got absolutely hammered, and lost at some pretty huge NA LANs at the time to NA's #1 team EFG who were a Source team. Other 1.6 teams over the years who have switched to Source, struggled at first and have had to spend actual time to get to know the team. "not even gonna take the time, as you are obviously a moron, and didn't counter any of my points, but who has the time to argue with a moron? (i certainly don't)" I countered every single point with facts, and you didn't bother, shows how much you know, and in reality shows how much depth of knowledge you have over me. :P

CS:GO is more like CS:CZ. CS:S camed to replace 1.6 but it failed and made its own little community. Valve's trying to get feedback for CS:GO. Who knows what will they do for develop CS2. - They failed at source because they didn't care the CS community. Valve's Chet were saying that they used to ignore CS community but no more.

What i have in mind is: We make the game what it was i mean the community. Let's just make things like when CS:S came out and that's it. We back to 1.6 or we switch to CSP like most of us switch 1.5 to 1.6. I really dont like 1.6 when came out but i learn to love the game but even today if 1.5 came back by some crazy miracle i'd love to play again.
2012-03-26 21:22
They failed? The css community is about as large as the 1.6 community, just because you personally didn't want to play css and you enclose yourself within a 1.6 lovers community does not mean css failed.

Oh really? so why can't we see any international events for CSS? Because they have more players on steam? or because i didn't count 1.6 ns players? or because their community reached amazing viewers numbers in eswc 2011? Or because valve broke the game and even the pros started to hate it and opened topics on steam forums? I used to be CSS player too but after updates it got worse and i stopped played it.

international events? like CPH? EWSC? Assembly? Dreamhack? iSeries? Maxlan? 30p? Steam numbers are roughly even, 1.6 has like 56000 compared with css' 50000, hardly a huge difference (certainly not worth of calling css a failure), and whilst in 1.6 you have the same handful of top teams playing in every single lan event the css scene has many many more professional sides competing at the top level. And yeh, since they switched to the orange box source engine (the breaking of the game you're referring to), hidden path came and addressed issues with the community and pros, the only people that still whine about "css updates destroying the game" are people who are terrible at cs(s), everyone else seems to be doing fine with it

56000 to 50.000? OK. Check the last records. 72k to 56k. the events CSS had were like 1.6's mini events. if you want to compare you have to put something big.

the point stands, 56 thousand people playing css 7 and a half years after release is not grounds upon which to call a game a failure you moron

lol, neither csgo nor csp are ready for tournaments, the CPH games are just pushing it. no one cares about a small tourney supporting csgo anyways. csgo is pretty much smaller than CS:S, which is very small compared to 1.6.

What a stupid statement... do you realize that GO is in beta?
2012-03-26 22:20

I got beta access, the game is filled with pub players and newbies, most of then are 24/7 on the CS:GO forums, so if the cs 1.6 community doesnt help on its development it will be worst than css and therefore ignored by the tournaments after a while. this would be the 2nd tournament of CS:GO, the game in its existence doesnt have more than 10k in price money. so theres not much hype about it, probably cuz people know valve is not hearing the competitive community as much as they should

2012-03-26 23:46
actually, most likely css teams will win it cos: 1. csgo is more similar to css than to 1.6 2. css players are more involved into csgo beta afaik, most of them play beta quiet a lot 3. Has ESC ever played csgo? Back in the days, they've played css showmatch against css team, it has been their first time they've played css and prolly the last one. Probably it will be their first contact with csgo as well so they will just mess around with game and have fun, so obv css teams > 1.6 teams in this case. Nobody's taking it seriously tbh.

1. "csgo is more similar to css than to 1.6". The only similarity is the graphics. That is where it ends. The rest is middle ground pretty much.

dont even try...... just dribbles that started playing 1.6 in 2009 and treat it like some sort of religion, without even playing C:SS and CS:GO if any of these people actually played both the games they would know they are not alike.

he was in the first team to beat 4Kings who was unbeaten in the uk for like 5-6years or so something stupid, did well at SHG Open I think? and beat Hoorai (lurrpis etc) at WCG or SEC can't remember - was doing well then moved to CSS for CGS for this reason... :P not to mention his salary for 2 seasons (15-20k per season or something?) + MVP bonus + prizemoney above, safe to say he probably earned more than any 1.6 player in that year ;o? *shock horror* And before anyone says doing it for the money, ofc he did and the fact he's paid for all his University fee's and has a degree in Law shows that it was worth while ;]

the css team is one of the top teams in europe, the 1.6 team can't even get out of groups you moron
2012-03-27 19:01
German EPS Season CSS > German EPS Season CS Last season mousesports had a german CSS Team with rattlesnake and Mx, few month ago they bought a second team. Now they have two CSS teams, one for german EPS and one team for international events. Don't don't cost that much compared to a CS team. Also the german EPS is dying in CS, so they will support CSS in future. My guess is that mousesports will win this tournament, they are already monsters in it, at least Mx :)

Yes but not competetive wise. It all depends on IEM, if we will see CS in 2013 still as a major title. Otherwise we will see CS GO as the new maintitle for sure, because many people will buy it. At the end the tournament organisations and sponsors decide, which games they want and not the players ;)
