DreamHack Summer to feature CS
DreamHack has announced that the upcoming summer event will feature a tournament with eight teams and a 100,000SEK prize purse.
Since the conclusion of the 2011 winter event, no information was released from DreamHack in regards of Counter-Strike 1.6 for their 2012 events. While announcing the DreamHack Open series, it turned out to be aimed at another popular game at DreamHack, the RTS game StarCraft II.
Today the DreamHack organization announced that the summer event will be featuring a Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament. The tournament will feature eight teams, of which six have already been found via invites. The six invited teams are:
|SK Gaming||fnatic||Natus Vincere|
|ESC Gaming||Moscow Five||Lemondogs|
The remaining two teams will be found via the onsite BYOC qualifier, which will take place on the first day of the summer event, Saturday, June 16.
Plantronics and Kingston are the sponsors of the tournament, providing a 100,000SEK prize purse, equivalent to roughly $15,000. The prize purse will be split between top four placed teams.
1. 50,000SEK ($7,268)
2. 25,000SEK ($3,634)
3. 12,500SEK ($1,817)
4. 12,500SEK ($1,817)
The tournament will begin in a best-of-one map group stage, two groups of four teams, with top two advancing to the playoffs. Playoffs will be played best-of-three maps in a single-elimination bracket and just like previous DreamHack events, the final will be played in DreamArena Extreme, an arena with 1,100 seats.
DreamHack Summer will also feature the 2012 Swedish Championship, featuring eight teams, including fnatic, SK Gaming and Lemondogs.
DreamHack Summer will run June 16-19 in Jönköping, Sweden and HLTV.org will obviously be on site to provide you with coverage.
