fnatic over New4 for third place

November 4th, 2012 19:09

fnatic has beaten New4 in K1 League Season 2's third place decider 2-1 (10-16 de_train, 16-3 de_tuscan, 16-12 de_dust2) to win 30,000 RMB (~$4,800) in their final tourney prior to CS:GO switch.

The world's best Counter-Strike 1.6 team in 2012 started off their final matches in the older version of the game in Shanghai with a 2-13 half as terrorists on de_train. They attempted a comeback after half time, but could only hit double digits before New4 clinched the opening map.

Second map de_tuscan was completely different, as the Danes showed strong terrorist play while dominating New4 almost as well as they had in the previous map, but by topping it with a clear 4-0 second half for a 16-3 win.

fnatic end their CS 1.6 career with a win

It all came down to de_dust2 where fnatic surprisingly scored eleven rounds as the defenders, while struggling as terrorists. Ultimately they were able to get the needed five rounds, and they secured a podium finish at K1 League Season 2. The VOD is available here.

oh, then yes)

GJ fnatic! I would love to see fnatic vs. TyLoo in 1.6. BO3. fun-fact: K1-prize-money >>> ESWC-prize-money The second place gets almost the same prize as NIP did by winning the ESWC and the first place gets 2.4x of NIP's prize.
2012-11-04 19:18
because you can totally compare a side tournament to the main game for a league
2012-11-04 19:25
ESWC has always been a major international tournament while K1 is some kind of China only tournament with no international reputation (not even other Asian countries seem to be part of it).
2012-11-04 19:29
CS:GO was a test game with more invites now stfu
2012-11-04 19:39
So what? I was just pointing out that a China only tournament is able to offer a higher prize money than the international ESWC. Although the K1 got no international audience they managed to get a shitload of money from sponsors. That means the Chinese market must be extremely strong. Therefor it would be great for CS if China respectively Asia would become a part of the scene. Also because 1.6 got dropped by the IEM because it wasn't "global enough". But I doubt this will ever happen since Valve allowed Nexus to release a new CS:Online which will separate the Asian scene even more from the western scene. Btw: Do you think the fact that CS:GO is just a "testgame" 3 months after its release and 1 year of Beta is something that should us make confident for the future?
2012-11-04 19:50
when you have a potential client base of almost 500million you can afford to spend more money
2012-11-04 20:03
Yeah sure. And that's exactly what I was on to. During the past 12 years the major CS audience always came from Europe+Russia+S/N-America, but it seems like there's now a pretty big CS:O community in China.
2012-11-04 20:09
The community is 1.6, only the sponsor is CSO.

Let's not forget the money people have to put in to actually run ESWC smoothly. K1 isn't half the size of an event that ESWC is, probably less expensive to run.

Because of the target audience being bigger than ESWC, there's no doubt in the reasoning why the prizes are massive. I don't see why you complain since China got one and a half billion people. And many millions are interested in games. Plus, the company behind K1 League have established connections to companies willing to invest. The reasoning behind is that ESWC don't have qualified marketing managers to provide a ROI in sponsoring such premier event ESWC is!
2012-11-04 19:59
I never complained about anything. I was just pointing out a fact and yes, it's actually surprising that the target audience of a China-only-tournament became bigger than the audience of a major and "legendary" Europe+America-tournament.
2012-11-04 20:03

Then I suggest you recommend ESWC another marketing manager. As I said, its all about connections. ESWC don't have good enough management in regards of marketing plans.
2012-11-04 20:26
When was ESWC ever a premier event?
2012-11-04 21:50
Sweden wmb
It's considered alongside WCG the most prestigeous event a player can win. 1. ESWC (World championships) 2. WCG (Olympics in CS) 3. IEM/CPL (World Series and league) So yes, it's a premier event.
