Torqued pick up wez

February 10th, 2013 21:46

Torqued have confirmed that former Dignitas member Elliot "wez" Welsh will complete their lineup.

The British veteran had played for Torqued as a stand-in in the team's last three ESEA-Open matches, and the former mTw side have now indicated that he has joined on a permanent basis.

Welsh burst onto the scene in Dignitas' 1.6 squad, but he then decided to switch to CS:Source, in which he would win an array of tournaments, including the 2008 Championship Gaming Series season with Birmingham Salvo.

He will fill in for Andre "nooky" Utesch, who left the team earlier in the month for mousesports after being offered a salary in the German giants.

In Torqued, Welsh will reunite with George "hudzG" Hoskins and Lasse "stingeR" Midtstue after playing alongside them in the mTw squad that won NorthCon 2011.

"We all got together and spoke about the possibilities after losing nooky, mainly because everyone in the team has put in a lot of time and sacrified a lot no-one was eager to see it go under." Hoskins told

"After talking about the future for a duration of time we decided that the best option for us would be Elliot "wez" Welsh. We all spoke to him previously, and after a couple of days of him helping us in ESEA we all felt that it was a natural fit for the team.

"As you know wez was a key part of our team when we won NorthCon, and despite the fact that unfortunately university kept him from getting into CS:GO earlier he feels now the time is right to give it his all with us."

Hoskins then apparently ruled out the possibility of Torqued attending Esports Heaven Vienna later this month, saying: "Now that Josh has been able to get settled in the UK (sorting family, a place to live), in a place where he can safely game away, we will be practicing again at full capacity, which means we are seriously aiming to attend I48 and CPH games."

Torqued now boast the following players:

United Kingdom George "hudzG" Hoskins
Sweden Andreas "MODDII" Fridh
Canada Joshua "steel" Nissan
Norway Lasse "stingeR"
United Kingdom Elliot "wez" Welsh

2013-02-10 21:49
Sorry to say, but; Who? :) Don't think i've never heard about this guy. And no, I wasn't involed in the CS scene before late 2010/early 2011, so i guess that's why. But gl guyz
2013-02-10 21:50
He played for salvo back in cgs, with rattlesnk&co.
2013-02-10 21:53
Ah I see :P
2013-02-10 21:59
He's an old school source player, he played back in CGS and won etc, one of the best britian players through out the entire source scene in my opinion, and he didn't play that much after 2010 i believe but in 2011 he played in mtw for a little while. I surely missed some important things but he was an amazing source player.
2013-02-10 21:54
Ah alright, thanks for the info :)
2013-02-10 21:59

2013-02-11 18:03
No problemo :)
2013-02-11 19:07
I agree with this ranking. (even if it's fiction since we haven't seen OI and torqued in action yet) The top6 looks really strong (soon top7 with na'vi incoming)
2013-02-10 23:29
And what are you basing that on? I havent seen torqued at any lan so far, Moddii performed well at Dreamhack but that dosent make his team sixth in the world. I'd say Curse.EU, Quantic and even Dynamic belongs on that list.
2013-02-11 00:23 is a joke atm.
2013-02-11 00:59
I'd say that torqued is an even bigger joke. Hyped as fuck, yet no org to support them.
2013-02-11 01:19

MODDII's team in 1.6: MODDII Karrigan FRIIS FYRR73 Trace MODDII's team in GO: MODDII hudzG Steel stingeR Wez :Oh God Why:
2013-02-10 23:07
Because its not 1.6 ?
2013-02-10 23:11
this team would destroy both mousesports and fnatic. trace friis and karrigan are both doing great in csgo! rofl

United Kingdom gsr-
This team looks good on paper, will be interesting to see how well they really do, but in the past wez has been one of the most consistent uk players and stinger is crisp. But to note, in csgo. none of moddii's ex-team mates have made a huge impact in this game, karrigan is playing for mous - one of the most inconsistent teams in the EU circuit, and as for friis and trace, they have played great, but they aren't the difference makers in the fnatic lineup currently.

Funny you should say that when the only player who has actually impressed out of the 1.6 roster since picking up CS:GO is MODDII. Have you ever thought that might just be the reason why he isn't playing with them now? Because they are pretty terrible at CS:GO?
2013-02-10 23:40
I think he's able to learn lot of things from "saucers" and use these thing in his future.
2013-02-11 07:20
That 1.6 line-up would be something like top30 in CSGO, maybe thats why.
2013-02-11 09:36
lol ease up, you need to remember who these players are. they will always be a threat to top teams no matter what counter-strike tittle.
2013-02-11 16:07
Yeah they are all big name players who are obviously very good at 1.6 but unless they really put some effort into CSGO they won't be a threat to anyone. They have experience, aim, gamesense and everything else they need to be successful if they are motivated enough to put the hours in.
